well I figured out I must have used a lacquer based primer but an enamel paint.
Cant see it in the pictures but the paint is crinkled

Ill have to strip it and start again...

On a side note, I thought I would have to paint the windshield frame silver, but some fine steel wool made the diecast shine like chrome so I think Ill just clear it. Ill get a pic of that later.

You may want to try an ETCHING Primer instead of just regular primer. I've done 3 57 Buick conv., and found the etching primer to be the best solution.

I cant believe my last post on this topic was over a year ago.
Last April.. holy crap time flies...

Anyway, I had some time this weekend, so I stripped the model down again.
And used self etching primer. It seemed to do the trick

I painted the engine bay black again, and red like my rear car for the body

I wasn't too impressed with the paint because of a few peck or bumps.. but what the hell, I'm not stripping it again. So I went ahead with clear and it turned out nice!

The only thing I hope now is that it fits back together. I know there is some paint build up, hopefully the doors and hood will close nicely. The headlights and door handles and other plastic parts Ill be able to clean out the holes and glue them back in.

Geesh I never even saw this post from last year! I may have taken you up on it! Appreciate the offer though but I got it painted now. Hopefully the paint build up is not to much.

I just checked on it and its still tacky after 4hrs. To tacky to test fit the hood, I got a feeling its not going to sit right because of the paint build up. From the maker these only had a very fine coat of paint.

More time tonight spent on the model.

The clear dried really nice... still afraid to touch it though, very easy to put swirl marks in it. I'll probably have to wax it in a couple weeks :Do No:

Here you can see a before and after basically. The red one started life like the black one before I cut the roof off it
I also had to fill holes where I took off the hood tach and spoiler.

Im not that great at upclose pics. Still have to do all the silver trim.
Windsheild, rocker moldings, wheel well moldings.
And put the black strip on the bumper and tail lights
I have the mirrors painted but not dry enough to assemble.

Here you can see the shifter I cut out of the chevelle parts car I used
not glued in yet but squats nicely between the seats.

Will post more once Im finished

    The final update, completed.

Well minor stuff left... Id like the molding on the rocker panels to be silver but the metalic pen I have is not accurate enough.

And I need to add the black for the rubber on the front bumper and around the tail lights... not sure if Im steady enough to do it nicely. I have another rear bumper I may practice on.

As a reminder, I started with the black GSX by ERTL like whats on the left here

You can buy chrome metal foil, most hobby shops have it. It's called 'Bare-Metal', could use it for any chrome you need to add. Enjoyed your article. I hope to get the new Danbury Mint 56 Buick when it comes out this fall. I'm sure I'll have to repaint it to match whatever color scheme that I paint my Buick.

Wow! That car looks great. Do you still have the spoiler? I have a blue '70 GS that needs a spoiler (and the '71 bumper treatment!)
