    Brian,
As far as the original selling dealer, I put all the docs in the safe deposit box. When I visit it, I'll jot it down.
The guy traded his 68 GS Cvt. He orderd the car late Nov 68 and took delivery in Jan. That spring he
added the 4 spd console, chrome breather lid, and 8 track after seeing his buddy's 69 with those options.
I even have the dealer receipts for those parts. This guy kept everything including the original (black) air cleaner lid,
it was in the trunk. It still has the original spare tire and boot, etc. I have 15's for it and will go with the slightly
oversized BFG T/A's The 14's are in great shape and will be stored away. I just have to get with the program!!

George, going with the white seats, panels (naturally storing the originals) and white top has crossed my mind.
If the originals were flawed, it would be more of a consideration. I'm my own worst enemy in keeping true to the trim tag.

With a car like that, I would stick to the tag as well :). Plus, I already owned (and subsequntly SOLD) my black/black/ white 69 4 speed... You saw the pics :Dou:

    Jeff,

That is some really cool information about the original owner. I guess those sorts of stories are still out there to be found. Even if you paid asking price, I don't see how any knowledgable musclecar fan could find fault. That is a rare car with a rare story. The white interior idea makes sense, but, as we've seen before, people begin to recognize a car for it's originality. For example, if I were to see the car at a show with the white interior, I probably would not assume it is the car with this story behind it. I sold a very nice original Stage 1 car to a fellow who simply changed the shifter from column to floor, and you'd think he'd stolen Girl Scout cookie money from the response on here. :dollar:

    Brian,

I hear ya. The 70 Stage Aqua/White/White that I bought from Ron Klein (Kelly Hartmans Car) is an original bucket seat car with short console column shift. Ron removed the short console and put in an original equipment floor shifter.
When he changed the steering column, he replaced it with an original tilt wheel column. It all looks factory, plus It's what I like.

The 69 was Uncle Milts Car!!

I believe I have one that in addition has factory air. I am currently restoring it. The engine and the 4 speed numbers match but the rear end does not have the right numbers on it. It is a buick 8.5 rear end with the axles that bolt in from the side. I don't have any paperwork documentation on it other that the id plate. I bought it in bakerfield around 20 years ago and I just starting working on it after getting an ultimative from the wife. I will post some pictures of it in the next several days. and no it is not for sale.

I have a 69 gs 400 stage one, ac convertable,I have had the car in my garage for 20 years since I bought it in Bakersfield CA . My wife gave me the ultimative to either complete it or get rid of it. I just starting restoring about 3 months ago. I believe it has the correct engine and 4 speed. I am a little confused on the rear end. It does not have the date codes stampded on it where it should. It looks like it is a 8.5 rear end andit is a posi rear enD. The gear ratio matches up with a ac car., but the axle bolts in throm the ends it does not have the c clips like most gms. Is this right. I don't have any documentation on the car other that the id plate which shows it is a gs 400. Is there any way to verify the car with just the vin and the protecto plate data?

I will post some pictures next week. I appreciate any advice .

    Thanks

Curious to know what color (trim tag) and transmission?
I always wanted to know how many original factory black stage one 4 speed cvt's were made in 69.
