I will start off by saying I have looked for the serial numbers on this rear multiple times with no success. It has bolt in axles and is an 8.5 (has the little ears on the bottom of the center housing). As this has been discussed before, I understand the only 8.5 with bolt in axles came out of the 71-72 buick gs and olds 442. The thing that is throwing me off is the mounting points. They don't look like typical A body mounting points. Almost looks like someone has relocated them Going to try and uplaod pictures. Any help with what I have would be great.
It could be out of a 73-77 A-body,if the mounting points are different. If you can't upload pictures(I can't either),you can email or text them to me,and I can tell you what it is.
Uploader seems fine on the site...??? Are the tubes 3" That will get rid of the g-body 8.5 catagory. measure the backing plate to backing plate width measure the over all width also. You can measure the width between the upper control arm bolt hole eyelets that will also help us ID the era too. Jim J D RAce
Sorry guys. I've been trying to do this from my phone but I guess I'm going to have to put my pictures on my computer or something because it won't upload them. I can't get measurements because the rear is at my buddies house 3 hours away. I'll try to get them on here from my computer tomorrow. Thanks guys
Just saw a guy with a 77 regal rear end on facebook that looks just like mine and has bolt I axles. I didn't realize GM made bolt in axle rears after 72. Learn something new everyday
Yes, 10 bolt 73-76 a-bodys in the Buick Olds and Pontiac rears did normally come with BIA. Chevy had the c-clip axles. Monte Carlo, Chevelle Laguna, Malibu classic etc. All of them were still 28 spline axles c-clip or BOLT IN. I have bunches of those rears on the shelf I can build.... Just need buyers with 197301977 cars. I think they were all demo derbied.
