I am new to the board but I have been a Buick enthusist since the age of 16. I have a 1970 GSX clone that runs bottom 11's through full exhaust including exhaust manifolds on street tires. I also have a 70 GS 455 car that has a TA aluminum block with Stg2 heads going in it. The car is fully caged and set up, we are expexting it to run mid to bottom 9's. At the same time I am just finishing up a 1987 Buick Grand National with a 275" Stg2 Buick V6 engine that has dynoed at 800 Hp. that should also put the GN in the mid 9's.

That being said my daily driver is a 2012 5.0 Mustang with an automatic. I put a Roush 2.3L roots supercharger on it with a John Lund tune. We took the cats out and installed an X pipe along with a KB boost a pump. Other than some minor tuning the car is all stock, stock torque converter and 3.15 rear gears. The car has muscled 10:80's @ 128 mph at 3500 DA with the stock mufflers. The car is very quit and it hustles down the track.

The other night we were the drag strip poking at a coulpe of C6 Z06 guys. They were bragging how fast their Z06 cars were and that nobody at the track that night would race them. I stepped up and asked if they would race my little 5.0 their reply was no 5.0 can take on a Z06. I quitly agreed and said but, I am the only one stepping up to race you so why don't you show every one how fast these Z06's are by running the 5.0 Long story short it did not end well for the Z06 guys, my little 5.0 went 5 for 5 with a two or three car advantage on the other end. My 5.0 mustard 10:80' to 11:0's each pass at over 128 mph with and ave 1.70 60 ft. Needless to say the Z06 guys were stunned. They are asking for a rematch this weekend. These new cars with all their technology makes it very easy to build a 10 sec street car with all the comforts of life.

I agree. Local guy had a 2010 Camaro in the 9.30s with full interior, a/c, etc. I saw this car every day rain or shine. Took second at the Lsx shootout a couple years ago. Search Paul Murphy.
Nice times all around by the way!

Yea I keep running faster then them in my stock block high 10's Buick 3500lb drag car. I work at a Chevy dealer and they always ask me when they are looking at a new corvette is yours faster than that and I say yep in the 1/4 mile but I don't lie I tell them after that the corvette will pass me but mines alot cheaper.

Thanks for posting the pictures Chris. Guy has done a wonderful job of restoring the old KB car. My new 70 GS455 car will look just like the KB car minus the decals. I have a picture hanging in my office at work of the old KB car pulling the wheels like your blue car in your avatar. The picture was from the GS National in 94 when i went to the Semis. I entered my 5.0 in an NMCA meet in September and took the True Street class and than drover home. I will try and post a picture of the Mustang and let you know how it goes this week end.

  7. I have a 2013 Mustang GT and have been thinking about a whipple supercharger for it. My car has the track pack with 3.73 gears and i think i may have to go with 3.31 gears otherwise it will be at red line so fast i wont be able to shift fast enough. my 2011 Mustang GT ran 12.75 the first time out with only 500 miles on the odometer and no tune.

They are sure fun cars, mine is a automatic, stick cars are to hard on parts.

  9. yeah, my 2011 was an auto, if the mt82 gives me trouble i'll just go with then transzilla and be done with it.

  10. To the OP... are you familiar with VMP? They are local to me and I have known Justin for almost 15 years now. His wife's 5 liter went 9.90's - very impressive. He is a helluva a tuner and they are great people.

How do you get away with removing the cats on a newer car? Is this not driven on the street or do you just bolt those back in when emissions time comes around?

Oh, or are you in an area that doesn't do emissions testing?

Update, I went to the track on Sunday, the ZO6 guys drew me out, they said they had a ZR1 and C6 that could take my 5.0. Long story short My 5.0 busted of a 10.55 @ 131 against the ZR1's 10.89 @ 130, the C6 could only muster a 10.92 @ 125 against my 10.62 @130. Fun day at the track the corvette guys are shaking their heads and going back to the drawing board. They told me top be ready for December.

Update - the 5.0 went 10.23 @ 135 with a slow 1.60 60 ft on Drag radials. The car has the stock trans and converter weighs in at 3950 with me in it. Running 12.5 lbs of boost, taking the car to the track tomorrow looking to go 10 teens. To answer the question about the cats, the law in Phoenix is five years before a new car has to be emission tested. At that time we slide the cats back on. Dave

Yes today's performance cars are very quick. And with all of the super-charging and turbo-charging that is going on, and what with new cars having computer controls from the factory, the sky is the limit. Other than that, the names of the cars in this posting could change at any track in America. Such as, a guy bragging on a new 2013 Boss 302 could be beat by a modified (super-charged) V6 Camaro, or any other combination of cars you could think of. All kinds of people brag on their cars, no big deal with me. This same thing happened a lot when 86, 87 GN's first started getting modified. OP is bragging on his Mustang now, which is fine, sounds like a fast modified car, but their are plenty of stock looking cars that can clean-up a low 10 sec. ride. So, let the bragging continue, I know it will, always has.

I like your style of walk/talk softly and giving the loud mouths enough rope to hang themselves. Fast with Class!:bglasses:

Tell them your V6 with a snail is faster

Tom N ????????? not quite understanding your post? OP bragging/ always has is this a dis on me? have I done something to offend you? I race at a lot of tracks and a high 9 low 10 second stock appearing street car especially almost 4000 lbs is dam quick any thing quicker is a race car.
