I would like to understand what is involved with the change to an Elderbrock 750 carb please, and also would like to ask if you can keep the standard Buick air filter cover, or if you need to change it?

I have seen other postings in various places that mention this is a very positive swap, but is it something that takes a lot of work, or is it fairly straight-forward?

    Thanks in advance

DEADMANSCURVE my first word : truck

air cleaner opening would need to be 5-1/8" .
and i think the edl 750 bolts right on to a standard 401/425 square bore intake manifold . i have both in shop , i'll dbl check later .
if you happen to have a quadrajet intake then an adapter would be needed ( and not recommended ) . it'll run ok but there is some air flow loss , plus it just kinda looks a little bit "adapted" .
edit : yep , oem 1965 wildcat 401 4bbl square bore intake , edelbrock #1407 ( 750 ) , bolted right on using the inner holes on the carb , throttle blades worked fine , linkages cleared intake ok . standard base gasket covers up the heat crossover passage , but elimination of that is not a big deal , a quick gasket mod would correct it . heat etc can eat away at the bottom of carb above that passage . thats kind of a problem on some of the oem carter carbs .

I changed my original Carter afb out with an Edelbrock 1407? 750cfm man choke.. already had an K&N airfilter, with dropbase.. Only thing I remember changing was the trothle arm, which I took from the old carb, and mounted in the new..

I put an Edelbrock on my 65 401. Had to do some magic to hook up the switch pitch switch and plugged the heat riser holes in the carb base with 1/4” pipe plugs. Runs great.
