Question, I don't have a paint code on my vin tag. Where the paint code is supposed to be is blank except for a small star ( about half the size of the actual numbers on the tag ) and i'm confused.
It could be a special-order color, such as a color offered only on the Riviera. What color is your car, and has it ever been repainted? Here's a site that specializes in the '65 GS: www.gransports.com There is a page that shows the standard colors avail on the GS.
Thanks Walt. The color is like an emerald green and i'm pretty sure it's the original color. I took off a piece of trim on the window frame since my car is a 2 door post sedan and it's the same color and does not appear to be touched under there. Now getting all trin off these posts is turnong put to be the biggest problen so far. I can't get anyone to remove and guarentee they won't damage. ( so I can have it restored. anodized alluminum.) Any suggestions on the trim Walt? I will post in the right forum to try to get more help with that trim.
My 65 convert has the same thing on the tag, however it is an original flame red car which was an option. Strange. I've never seen another one with the star. that makes 2! :beer
The star is still somewhat of a mystery as it appears on my 65 GS post tag as well (Flint built). The star does not appear on my 65 GS coupe or convertible tags (Fremont & Baltimore Built). From what I can tell, you car was probably Verde Green from the factory (J code). It's a nice color for the 65 that you just don't see that often. As far as the anodized trim goes, yes you can have that restored however I'd strongly suggest that you find someone to restore it with actual anodizing and not just clear coat a polished part and then claim it's the same. If you wouldn't mind, I'd like to see a picture of your tag as it certinally seems like something unusual. Chris
Will try mt best to send a pic but i'm not too swift with this computer thingy. I have a guy to restore the trim and he sent the 2 pieces back juat medium polish job and they are beautiful. Now he says I can go either way, clear coat or he has a guy that will re-anodize them. The problem being if I can't get the rest off, i'm not sure which way I should go cause the rest isn't perfect. Is the front door trim just kinda wrapping around the steel or is there some other way they mount?
Well, you do show a code R2.....which would be the Flame Red with a white top. I don't know what the star is for. It could designate pinstriping or wheel color. Joe, was your car also built in Flint? It would have a 'BF' on the plate like Madmax's does. Joe, I don't have any experience with the '65's trim, so I can't help with that. You guys might like this '65 Olds 442 site: www.442bro.com Lots of good info there! :TU:
Yes mine has an FB and right under it is an LL. The star is under the unit number so I guess I was looking at it wrong. Is LL the green?
Yup! ....Midnight Aqua Poly..... http://www.gransports.com/1965/1965 GS O-matic/Color Pages/Regal-Black.htm
We are gonna kick the crap outta that 442 site! :Brow: Just wait till you see what I have in store for you 65 GS guys next month! www.GranSports.com is getting a new facelift and it's gonna rock! :Comp: Chris
I'd be curious to know if that star is GS or Buick specific? Anyone know any other 65 A body guys (GTO / Chevelle / 442) that might want to look for the star on their tag? We know that not every assembly plant used it. Chris
the R2 code is for Flame red with a Black top. the # codes were 1=white, 2=black, 3= light blue, 4=tan. My plate does not have the star after the R1. Hope this helps Al :beer
