Can anyone explain the 1966 Buick Skylark (w/power brakes) return spring attachment locations. I noticed while replacing the firewall insulation that it was not attached to the pedal arm. Just hanging from the brake pedal support weldment. I have researched this recently and have read that power break equipped A- body cars did not use a pedal return spring? p.s. there is an approx. 7/16 inch thru hole drilled in the pedal arm couple of inches above the clevis pin and the spring will attache to the hole of course though quite difficult to get too and even when it is attached to this hole it does not provide any initial spring tension to keep the spring attached to the arm when the pedal is at rest. There is such small amount of pedal travel that the spring will not have tension to provide pull back as intended. Thanks for any help.

No spring on any of the 64-65-66-67 "A" body cars I have owned, Buick, Chevy, Oldsmobile. I've only had about 20 so there are people who have had many more than I. Maybe they have a different answer.
There are normally 2 holes in the pedal, one for power brake cars and one for manual brake cars. Power brake cars use the lower hole.

Curious to see what others contribute. BTW- my 1966 is a ragtop and I bought it from the original owner 38 years ago! Point being the spring is factory installed and just hanging there above and in-line with the brake pedal. Makes sense what you mentioned with the different thru hole locations in the pedal arm...

My 66 GS 4 speed, non power brake car had a spring, from what I found power brake cars did not have the spring. I converted mine to PB and did not put the spring back. 66 4 speed project 003.JPG

Yes this is the spring and mine has the same clevis pin clip. Thank you all for the information.

I learned something today, I've never seen that spring before. But I also can't remember when I last had a manual brake car.
    Thanks
