Marc ^^ PM'd me yesterday asking for an update. Filled him in thought I'd catch you guy up as well. Couple of weeks ago I found a lead on FB for a 65 2 door HT in Ohio with solid body panels. Contacted the seller he wanted 3K for the parts car. Before I could get the negotiations going he sold the car to a scrap yard(WTH) Found out where it was and called them first thing Monday morning. They wanted 2 K for the car and sent me good pictures. said it was very solid. After a week of back and forth they said they would cut the 1/4's off and ship it to my buddies place for 800.+/- cost of shipping or I could have the complete car for 1500. Said no. 1000.00 tops as I had to fund the long trip up, over and back south. This morning we made the deal I wanted. Will be heading up next Weds after work. Should be home before Monday if all goes according to plan with the car - rear 1/4's So I'll have some cat parts to pass on to needy Wildcat peoples.
Next issue is the title. Should be simple right? Not. For some unknown reason Florida requires I take the car to Tallahassee for a inspection of the VIN at the regional DMV office. Even though it was inspected by a federal agency at the boarder and again by a Michigan state trooper and the proper Florida forms filled out by them and presented by me at my local DMV its not enough proof the car is legit. Common people, Its a 52 yr old Buick! Anyway, I gots an idea and called the Sec of State in Mich. That office handles tag and title. My question was will they title the car in Mich even though Im not a resident there. They said no problem. bring all the paperwork along with the customs forms and for 14.00 they'll issue it a title. Called my local office, asked my contact there if I brought them the Michigan title would they transfer into Florida and issue me a tag. Again, no problem. Just 77.00+ tax on the purchase price and the fee for the custom tag. Sort of stupid I have to do it in such a round about way. So thats the plan. I'll have eyes on it for the first time next weekend. Will get pics then.

So Michigan can process the title without a Michigan address?

Heres the latest. Just got back from a long 4 day drive. Went up to Ohio and picked up a 66 hard top parts car at a junk yard. took it to my buddys place in Michigan where we cut off the 1/4's then drug it home to Florida. On the way I stopped in Cinci to see Ted and pick up a rad and top support. While in Mich I got the title straightened out. Seems Michigan has no problem titling a car from out of country even though I dont have a Michigan ID or address. As soon as it comes in the mail I can transfer into Florida. Theres LOTS of good usable parts on whats left of this hulk. I'll get everything thats good before taking the body to the crusher.

Well done Briz! I can see in the last pic that the parts car is a column shift. Oh well. I'll keep looking for my shifter parts. What did you write on the trunk lid? "The ultimate donor"??

My buddy wrote that as I was leaving his shop. As you can see he cut way more than we need for the job. Later he'll drill out all the spot welds and have only the outer panel .

Briz, how is the steering wheel on that wreck? I need a half-decent black one, I don't mind a few cracks, but major chunks missing would be a problem.

Hey Briz, I'm in west Michigan, just southeast of Grand Rapids. Is you Buddy's shop anywhere near?

Hey, thought Id let you know that wheel is trashed. Horn bar is not bad but I cannot get it to come off. The 4 screws are gone but its stuck tight in the center of the wheel

Went in and got the title registration and tag. Heres another example of DMV stupidity. I wanted the Florida Panther tag with the personalized lettering "6T6 CAT. But before I have that I must purchase a plain regular tag that has the county name on the bottom. Once the new tag is made and sent to me I'll have to replace one with the other then throw the new / old tag way as expired/ non usable. So there goes another 500.00 into the project.

Would it be easier to register an original '66 plate to it?

Same in Quebec. They just recently allowed vanity plates. My first 3 choices were gone already, but my 4th choice "STAGE1" wasn't taken. Now I have to make the car live up to the plate!
Around the same $450. including first plate . Then wait for the plate and throw the 4 month old one on the car away. DMV's everywhere exist to make things harder than they should be. Got this email 5 mins ago.

If I did and then got the panther tag I'd have to toss it. The way they explain it to me once its replaced its dead. can never be used again. When I bought the "Endless Summer" tag for the Riv I replaced the Suwanee tag and it became no good. Few months later I decided to go with the 68 R1V on the Endless Summer tag and they made me throw that one away.
