I think it’s a guide coat; might be camo, but it’s hard to hide something that’s not even all bolted together, or even all there. That car must have every type of rattle known to automotive kind when it moves.

I guess the big "H" on the front stands for hideous?

What's that under the hood behind the passenger headlight? Looks like part of a moonshiners still.

I'm all about the chain steering wheel, shifter combo...:D

Now you only need a bag of weed and a lot of smoke, to re-create the cheech and chong seen in "up in smoke".

cheech's Chevy had that same steering wheel.

Owners name is Mike Howard. I guess there wasn't room for an "M" on the grill.

The "Copper tubing into an old whiskey bottle" is a rat rod thing for a coolant overflow. Maybe that's what he's got going on there?o_Oo_O

Wayback Machine in my head - I remember at my high school there were 2 68 Buick Skylark Convertibles- Mine, a Desert Beige (aka babyshitcream) OK car I got for 200 bucks that needed everything-
and M I K E 's beautiful silver and black one. His dad had a paint shop so it was nice...here is where it ties in- his Dad had painted MIKE in big silver letters into the black grill . Car was cool except for that!
At least I had a NOS grill from Buick! Nicest part on my car :)
