I want to deal with the quarter panel on my car and had a question about priming/ painting it with the corner extension in place? or separately. I'm worried that the paint could chip as I reinstall it. My instinct is to paint it apart so no rust can start on the inner surfaces. Any opinions?

When mine got painted, the shop put spacers between the extensions and the body and held them in place with the attachment bolts. Everything that needed to get painted in there got covered.

I was also thinking to space it when painting, I was just concerned about chipping the paint when It gets reassembled. I assume yours went back together o.k.

They’re perfect. And in the 3-4 years since it got done, not one issue has come up.

Word of caution, when you do it apart which is the preferred way 90% of the time. You need to let it cure for at least a week b4 you reassemble it if it makes contact. Or it will push up

Got it! Thanks for the heads up. Won't be until the end of July. The rt. quarter panel has what looks like a light sideswipe as I can't see much deflection in the trunk. Previous owner had some hack bodywork done and left it in primer. They will scrape off the layer of bondo and see what's underneath. The body shop said they could put on a lower quarter if things are too messed up. This surprised me as I've never seen lower quarters available for any 2 dr. 68 Wildcat online. I doubt it will come to that tho.
