The half toward the passenger side on my car is fine. The half toward the driver side has a hole in it. I am told it needs to be a 68, 69, or 70 to match in color, maybe 71, not 72. Dunno. Need something nice with no stains or defects. Oddly, when I took mine apart I found a busted off piece inside, but it didn't fit the hole.
I have a few. The driver's side usually gets broken taking the engine out/in, especially with a big block. Email me for pics, etc.: drolds1@bellsouth.net. Thanks, Bob.
Okay, so I got offered the one's in the first pic. My damaged one appears in the second pic. Mine looks maybe about the same as the middle one. It matches my right half. what's the deal as far as color? My 69 is an August 1968 build -- body no. 007
COLOR MATCH on these Evap cases - vary A LOT. . .I learned the hard way when I restored a nice set, only to find out they were QUITE OBVIOUSLY NOT A matched set. THAT BEING SAID, I have an original SET, so if color match is a concern this would be your best bet. .. Wheelz, Tampa Bay
Steve, Patton called me today. He sent me a pic of what we're trying to match. I'll pull some more out tomorrow and see if I've got a winner. Thanks, Bob.
I figured that you might get a kick out of that. Seriously though, we've never had a Buick or a Chevy that gave us any competition, running for "class" in NHRA Stock Eliminator. Oh oh, time to head for a bunker!
I would not purchase just 1/2 of the cover. You will never get the two pieces to match unless you have everything directly in front of you and are lucky enough to find an exact match. Also, these vary between makes, and maybe between model years as well. I know the Chevelle & Oldsmobile units are different. Your best bet is to get a full cover off a 69 Skylark/GS. Duane
Bob -- I am willing to defer to Duane's judgement on this issue, even though he has really only worked on one 69 (and it was some oddball blue thing no one here wanted, from what I recall.) If you have a matched set that makes Patton happy, lemme know a total and we can make this happen. -- Steve
Steve, I just got back on the forum and didn't see this until now. I found a darker one, cleaned it and sent Patton the comparison pics about 5 mins. ago. Let's see what he has to say. I do have multiple complete units, still screwed together, if it comes to that. I'll await his/your answer. Thanks, Bob.
