My trunk emblem broke off on my GS Cali. I ordered a new one and waiting to receive it. I believe the previous owner had the spring in wrong. My question when working correctly does the spring assist the door? Also can anyone explain or have a pic/diagram of where the spring goes?

I believe that it slightly applies some closing load and keeps it from rattling. I look for mine and send a photo if you need one.

I got a new one from OPGI it was all together with the spring in place. It goes between the door and plate. The previous owner had the spring in wrong and it never sprung back like the new one. Thanks for the reply.

Do they include a template for the holes? I need to drill my replacement trunk deck.

    Thanks,
    Mike

No template came with the one I got from OPGI.

It was worth a try. I have seen a template somewhere but can't seem to remember where. :)

The spring supplied with the reproduction emblems isn't the best. Also, the pot metal used is brittle when compared to the originals. The barrel, on the backside of the GS emblem tends to break.... just beware of that.
The spring applies tension to keep it "closed". I wish I had my spares to post pics for you of how it was attached.
