I know, right? I absolutely love the bench seats. Nothing against the buckets, love being able to have my little guys helping me hold the wheel, and having the wife straddle the stick and be close to me on date nights. Also cramming three or more people up front has its place too. Just better for better memories all around. AM radio works great, just not many AM stations to listen to here LOL
Wow. Nice score indeed. Too bad about the engine .If it was me, I'd do a refresh at home on it. Clean it all up, put new bearings all around, fresh rings and a nice paint job. These engines will run forever with low oil pressure .As long as you don't hit 6000 rpm"s!!! Good luck. And be careful cause it adds up way too fast!!!! Where u located pal?
I'm down in Arkansas. Yeah the engine just needs a little refresh methinks. I tend to be anal about setting up the drivetrain the way I like it, powerful and reliable. Every time I buy a new (used) car, I focus on setting a baseline of either a fresh engine, trans, and accessories or a very in depth checkout and then upgrades. I always swap in LED bulbs, and most times upgrade the headlights and brakes right away. I discovered Christmas Eve that it has a single stage paint that just desires a rub down to be glossy, so I've got some polishing to do...it actually is cleaning up very nicely with some good elbow grease and some polishing compound. Pics of that later!
Did a bit more polishing tonight. Sure cleans up nicely. Here's a couple engine pics. Pay close attention to the Mallory Ignition mounted onto the power steering bracket...it all looks factory/OEM. The guy said it was a dealer installed item. Anyone ever seen one of these?
Here you can see the difference between the hood that I have not touched yet and the fender. Like I said, cleans up nice but all the rags are green now too LOL.
Your heater hose bracket is mounted in the wrong place. It should use the threaded hole in the manifold that the upper AC bracket would of used if your car had AC. Its more probable that the Mallory ignition was installed early on. While its possible that it was installed at the dealership, it was never installed at the factory.
Thanks, yeah the spark plug wire separator looks like it is mounted in the AC bracket bolt hole...at least they didn't just toss the heater hose bracket! One thing I know, that Mallory unit is OLD!
Change the oil to Valvoline Racing VR 20W-50 it has the proper ZDDP. Your oil pressure readings will increase. Mobil 1 is thin oil. Nice find. :TU:
Dont go to crazy with the compound . You can get good result more gentle without taking so much base color off . http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum...w-car-finish-antique-single-stage-paints.html DL
That race oil is not meant for daily driving as it has much less detergents in it. Mobil 1 0w-40 has a higher zddp level than many other synthetics at 1100 ppm and the weight is what I like, especially in the winter.
Once the weather improves and I swap engines it will be enjoyed immensely. Can't risk damage to the original engine with its low oil pressure issue, needs a proper rebuild.
Hey! What are my American Racing Wheels doing on your car? uzzled: You should swap in that GS steering wheel I gave you before. I couldn't handle that wheel it has. BTW, a chin spoiler for my '70 GS will be getting shipped out to you soon...Go easy on my tires, you! (He's my younger brother!)
I drove about 10 miles on them to see if it tramlined like yours did with them (it didn't, meaning either your alignment is off or new steering gear is needed) and see if I like the bright chrome look on it, or darker like my CCW knock offs on my Skylark. Can't decide, but leaning towards the chrome since its such a dark color with no accents.
I am excited to take some pictures once your car is done being painted and my convertible is done too, which won't be for a long time unfortunately...
