I drug my recently acquired 70 GS 455 coupe roller into the shop and began looking at it a little closer.

I am putting the driveline and missing parts off of the world's rustiest GS 455 coupe into it so it will not be a matching number, original car, just something for fun with a big-block.

I am keeping the color correct to the cowl tag as it is a code 25 Gulfstream Blue car and was all set to axe the white vinyl top until I looked at the tag closer and figured out its one of those painted top cars.(explains why the rear window is still rust free!)

I really am still thinking about solid gulfstream blue.(NOT a vinyl top fan)
The interior is that goofy standard Skylark blue interior which I really don't like either. I am considering swapping the decent black standard skylark interior out of the other GS 455 and eliminating the painted top. To me this will be the perfect 70. I am not concerned with value as much because it won't be a numbers car anyway.

Anybody have any pics of a solid(no vinyl top) gulfstream blue GS anywhere? Anybody else like them with no vinyl/two tone?

    Anybody give a rip?

I give a rip, but don't have any pics... :Do No: I think unless you're doing a high dollar resto, I wouldn't would about changing the interior color. I think gulfstream would look good with a white painted top, but that's just me. I think that blue seems to look kind of bland with no contrast against it. As far as interior, white with black carpet/dash would also be cool if you go with the white top..?

Hadn't thought of Pearl White. Pearl White would be nice with Gulfstream Blue. I would have to switch to the Custom Level interior then, which is fine with me. If I had photoshop I would mess around a little with options. Anybody have a good pic of a 70 GS in Gulfstream blue?

Something like this here? I'd stick with the white top.

If it were me, I'd keep the blue interior too. It's not often that you see blue interiors at car shows. White would be OK, I don't know about black though. It seems that everyone puts a black interior in their car, quite frankly it gets old after a while. Of course, you can't keep everything original, and sometimes you are doing the car a favor by saving it no matter how you go about that. I think the blue interior would be a neat sight at car shows though. My $.02 :bglasses:

The top contrast just adds something to the blue... :TU:

Well, if the blue interior was the custom trimmed one I would keep it blue. The two tone skylark "el cheapo deluxe" is what does it to me. After all, I have to drive the thing. At least the black base interior is just all black. I am a plain car guy. I always wanted kind of a copy of an old road test stage 1 car from a 1970 magazine. It was solid color, cheap black interior, bench seat with a 4 speed. It just looked tough.

Maybe I will change to the blue waffle style interior instead so I don't have to change the dash over. Something to consider.

I searched for a few years to find my 71 GS 350 coupe without a vinyl top.(had to be bittersweet mist and have factory buckets)

Hey Henry, there wouldn't be some special reason you like those painted top cars would there?

Thanks for your help guys. I am trying to get a picture together to hang in the shop for inspiration.

    yeah

yeah, thats what mine is, i think the painted top looks better than the vinyl top. i always did like any blue cars with a white top though. that car having the 1/4 peak moulding, i'm surprised to see the same color top and bottom. rare i do believe. henry

    buickman70 I pirated this pic!!!

Chris, I think that the photo you attached in post #4 is stratomist blue. It looks to dark to be gulfstream.

Keep in mind that the car is in a showroom, and rather dark. It gives an overall idea, these metallic colors have quite a bit of value change to them. Aqua mist for example looks like a green in darker lights, and almost a sky blue in bright sunshine. Stratomist was a special order color, and if I remember correctly the car was listed on the sight I borrowed the picture from as Gulfstream. :Comp:

Actually when I pushed it next to my Aqua mist parts car the colors are not too far off. The aqua has green in with the blue and the gulfstream has a little gray to the blue. Both are quite light shades though. That is why I like the contrast of the black interior. If it was diplomat blue I would have to have a white interior.
