Yes, that is a 70 deluxe interior with the longer armrests and the "GS" door panel emblems.

The trim number on the ID plate on the firewall would tell you whether it originally came with a deluxe vs a std interior.

Exactly what I was going to ask. You may be correct on these. Rich Johns sent me a pic of his seemingly original 121 and like your old one it doesn't have chrome strips.

Interesting Duane...I know I have a TR 189 on the trim tag for Burnished Saddle, but what on the tag stands for deluxe?

ST70 then the 44637FL1 and body number are the top line
TR 189 and 10F = interior and paint codes for second line
01B for the third line is build date = second week of January

    Thanks,
    Nick

Trim code "189" is a Burnished Saddle Deluxe front bucket seat interior.

For 1970 the "18" is for buckets, and the "9" is for the color.

    Dano,
I might not always be right, but I am not often wrong. The trick is to not answer the question if you aren't sure.:D

Do you guys track me? Every time I post something on here and mention a name they seem to show up.

Thanks Duane! I never knew the trim code broke down even further to tell you bucket seats. Always wondered where the bench/bucket seats were determined. Just assume on the build sheet which I don't have. Not to mention I found a little piece of paper under my front seat which showed 189 and M20. I have an automatic, so I must have got someone else's paper. Thanks again!

what about standard vs. custom headliners. Was there a difference in the fabric or the pattern?

For the 70-72 cars I do not believe there was a difference. Those year Buick a-bodies used Premier Grain non-perforated.

The Chevys used Premier Grain perforated, and maybe the Pontiacs.

Other years used ribbed design or stars, etc.

This replaced an original set I took out.

12” armrest bases. No chrome strips and the narrow emblems

At this time Legendary wasn’t dyeing the darker sandalwood on the front of these panels and I didn’t have the knowledge or skills to do this myself so they stayed one color. With a 124 code the originals I took out were the dark sandalwood matching the dash above the angled thin chrome piping. I believe they’ve corrected this now. It’s also interesting to note that Legendary has changed the color to a a darker tone than what’s shown here regarding the light sandalwood.

It still looks great with the single color. Can you send pictures of the rear interior as well? The rear seat, rear panels, package tray? Also a question here for the group. My car has factory rear defroster. When purchasing the package tray, will this come with the holes for the defroster grill? And where are the items located in the package tray? Is the speaker on the left or the right?

Neither of us were 100% definitive one way or the other but yea, yea, you were correct:). I did say that marketing & engineering don't always talk. I had a draft of a post on this topic but hadn't posted it yet. For everyone else's info. this is what the '70 literature shows with respect to the armrests:

I do not believe they cut the holes for the defroster, I have never seen that done. Especially due to the fact that the 1970 cars used 2 different types of defroster units.

    Your wish is my command.

Some of the early 70 cars came with a defroster that has a plastic grille like a long thin rectangular slot, and not the rectangular metal one you are used to seeing. (It looks like what they put on a 70 Camaro.) It might be what they used on the 69 Buicks, I never looked into that.

Anyway I got one out of a car we were scrapping and the slot in the rear shelf board was factory cut, and the date code on the unit matched the car, so I figured it was original to that car. Since, I have seen at least 1 or 2 others like it. It was probably a very early 70 thing.

I do know the 70 Buicks came with 2 different steel rear shelf pieces, (The structural metal piece that is below the rear shelf), and the early cars have the provision for the "slotted" defroster grilles.

So a couple of things. My 70 car has what you said earlier.....a plastic rectangular grill defroster. So I will have to cut the package tray myself? Where am I installing this under the drivers side of the back glass? Maybe someone has a package tray with this kind of defroster and they can post pictures!!!

Second with regards to the interior, mine came with factory tape player under dash. Is the housing of this tape player matched to the dash and Sandalwood in color, or did it remain black?

The rectangular "slotted plastic grille for the early cars goes in the middle and NOT to one side or the other.
There is a long thin slot cut out of the steel package tray for those cars so there is only 1 place where you can put it.

Maybe you should post a pic of your unit so we can see exactly what you have.

As far as the 8 track, I don't believe any of them were color coded to the interiors.
