...wonder when transition took place. Assy Manual text usually same as sticker. My Nov '70 Rev Assy Manual Section 0-12 still shows 15x7, late Flint sticker 7x15...

...likewise have wondered, especially as relates to F4 or F7. No price difference for F option for car with H6. You'd think those HD wheels would be worth something toward F wheels...o_O

Parts book shows all '71 14x6 same except "silver painted" 14x6 for about $5 more...HD?

...clearly distance is factor, and in addition to others mentioned, add mode...by rail (possibly with additional trucking) and ship for overseas. Also clearly, without original sticker or same plant/dealer example, obtaining accurate destination charge is impossible. Slightly OT, from '72 Sloan research last year, I learned my dealer ordered exactly 2 Flint GSes for entire year...so much for examples...

F41 is heavy duty springs, shocks, front & rear swaybars, boxed rear control arms. Heavy duty wheels would mean a thick steel to make them.

Sloan Doc. Oct. built car came with "F9 Wide Oval White Billboard Lettered tires G70-14" HOWEVER V2 indicates "Chrome Plated Wheels". So the option was there in Oct. 69. No window sticker but have build sheet. I had a 70 skylark with 14" road wheels with the chrome rings. Back then i thought they were low budget but i guess there hard to come by now?

...decided to look it up. HD wheels-last parts book a-body listing with HD in description was '67, part#9791450. Coming forward, 9791450 became disc brake wheel in '68, and standard 14x6 for '69-'72. Looks like GS-only H6 option description in Assy Manual and Wholesale Order form incorrectly references HD wheel into '70s. Per part#, became standard wheel in '69.

I am a big fan of these wheels although they are on the small side.

Phil I am guessing that is the 1970 14" Super Sport wheels ? I always thought they were cool because they are different and you very rarely ever see them on any cars. I have kept a set for many years but never found a car I wanted to use them on.

I am using my set on a 70 GS 455 4spd. I think they will look great against gulfstream blue and a black vinyl top.

TxGS- is the picture you posted an original V2 “chrome plated wheel” from you 70? If so, could you post the date codes and any numbers stamped on the wheel? I need to find a set for a mid November 70....

It is not a V2 plated wheel it is a trim ring on a painted rim super sport wheel (I think that's what it is called).

Yes that is a 69-70 style Super Sport Wheel. They changed the design totally for the 71-72 model years, but kept the same name.

This is a plated wheel (center only) with a trim ring, 68 only and not listed anywhere as an option but documented on the build sheet. 14x6.
The spare in the trunk is the same wheel, chrome plated center, black painted outer rim,

Interestingly enough my 70 Stage Conv has the PK5 F9 and is listed as an S.C.O. Car was also optioned with PO5 V2 Chrome Plated Wheels. The wheels that came on the car have chromed spokes, and trim rings. P1110962_renamed_510.jpg

Question. . . My '70 Stage car cam with the F-4 option. I know the wheels should be Argent Silver but, should the whole wheel be painted silver? Were the backs painted a different color or the same? I know it's a goofy question. The reason I ask is on my '70 Pontiac's, the Rally II's are Silver and Charcoal and the backs are a dove gray.

Not a silly question at all. The whole wheel was painted in a gloss gray, then just outer surface was sprayed with a satin light (argent) silver. If I can get to it in the garage rafters, I'll get some photos of a low mileage original wheel.

Jim, it would be great to see some pictures of an original wheel. Also, off hand do you know the depth of the trim rings? Ames Pontiac sells some that are 2 1/4" deep. Part #T113N. Appearance wise they look correct.

Here is my 1971 GS build sheet, they killed the wheel option the day before the build. 0CA4381B-F625-4083-B08C-8C18842D0CAC.jpeg
