This came in the mail today. Brand new, never opened Led Zeppelin 8-track to go in the restored 8-track player!
Amazing find! I was searching for similar stuff for mine 8-track player, but haven't so much success.
Nothing much to report. I need to take my engine to Canada one of these days. I had plans to do that in the fall but had to reschedule. I need to get on JW's calendar for completing and dynoing the engine, last I heard he was still tinkering with the rotating assembly. I picked a really nice original jack assembly from a board member here plus a couple of other odds and ends like repop air cleaner decals from the east coast GS club. I also got a nice "year of manufacture" license plate from Ohio for the front of the car. Oh and I guess I actually do own the car in question now. The Minnesota DMV rejected my title application because the guy I bought it from left the title open from when he purchased it. I had to post a surety bond. The new Minnesota title showed up the other day so I guess it worked. So that makes two bonds for the car so far. One with Minnesota to reassure them that I actually bought the car, one with Canada to make sure I don't leave the car in Canada forever. Will post more once something happens...
Ok - getting back at it again. I am going to deliver my engine to Rich sometime in June along with a few more parts that I have collected like front wheel houses, new T3 headlights, and a few other odds and ends. Rich is fitting up the parts in the front clip to make sure the body panel gaps are tight and even (not like when the car was new). JW should be wrapping up the engine soon. I will post photos of the engine when I get it.
Engine is done, I picked it up from Jim's a couple of weeks ago and dropped it off at Rich John's place in Canada after an epic road trip. The engine is a mild build, stock appearing on the outside with the Popular Mechanics cam, 0.038 over, oil mods, and Stage 1 heads (of course). I plan on running stock exhaust manifolds. Jim also rebuilt the BB transmission. I also dropped off the rebuilt Sonomatic radio, some trim pieces and a really nice, complete jack assembly to go in the trunk. I also picked up a set of original Rally wheels for my '67 and the nicest '67 GS trunk trim on planet earth that I had been storing at my sister's place in New Jersey. I then dropped off a complete '67 GS AC system from my part-out car that I sold to Ziggy in Pennsylvania. And lastly, I picked up a set of '71 Super Sport wheels that I bought from Steve Caruso in Michigan on the way back to Minnesota. I don't even have a '71 (yet) but am a sucker for odd-ball stuff like those wheels. It was a solid week of driving and Buick fun. The next step is for Rich to start fitting up the front end parts and adjust everything to get tight, consistent body gaps.
A couple of recent photos: Rust repair on the original GS hood: The entire front lip had to be placed with a section from a donor hood. Rust repair on the door - that's all new sheetmetal sections under the body filler. I picked ups the rebuilt Stage 1 carb from JW the other day and dropped it off with Rich Johns in Chicago at MCACN last weekend: According to Jim the choke plates should be zinc silver plated as shown, not yellow zinc plated like a brake booster . That's the original finish on the body of the carb. It was in good enough shape that it didn't require refinishing. Stage 1 distributor restored and converted to single wire electronic ignition by JW: The body is ready for paint now. I will post some updates when there is something exciting to look at.
I’m new to the site. Read your updates. Had a Sherwood Green 70 Stage 1 four speed. Had Super Sport wheels too! Here’s an old pic. Good luck with yours.
Welcome to V8Buick! were those Super Sports painted green too? I bet you wish you still had that car now.
Thank you. Yes, I “color keyed” the wheels to match the car .... I still have them! With BFG Belted TA’s and all!! And I do know where the car is ... but I have 4 GS’s already and my wife would probably get mad. Plus it would be a big project. Maybe someday. It was a pretty basic car, PS but manual brakes (that could barely stop it after a few runs), ran low 13’s through mufflers. Now you’ve got me thinking! Hope you post some pics when yours is finished.
Here's the result of the work Rich did late last year to make sure the body panel gaps were tight and uniform.
