1970 Stage 1 choke thermostat

    Is the 261 for a stage 1 automatic, or is it just any 70 big block?

    So, a 1232269 is for a 70 455 with a 4 speed. A 1232261 is for a 70 455 automatic. Doesn't matter if its a Stage 1 or not according to my parts book. What the difference is, is beyond me.

    They're pretty rare. In 30 years of pouring over Buick GS parts, Ive only seen 2 of them.

    Just use one for the Automatic. They just open at different rate. Not that relevant at this point. Originals were gold zinc plated.
