Looking for a throttle cable for a 1971 Skylark/GS for a 455. Anyone got one to sell?

Is there a specific part number for the GS455 cable?

    I have one I bought a while back that I was told came from a 71 GS350.

Are you running a stock intake? I haven't checked, but it may be a little short to use with an SP1. The one I run with my SP1 is from a 72 Centurion 455.

guys, part # for the 68-71 big block GS throttle cable is 1387262
for 1972 it is, 1239788 for the bb GS. i do know the 70 GS 350 cable is only about 1/4 inch ( or less ) shorter than the 70 GS 455 cable. thats from comparing two nos GM cables that cost me a fortune right before the repro's came out.

i would look at the repro parts forum to see franks repro's. much cheaper than my nos ebay ones.

Do you have a length? I have three throttle cables, none are correct for a 1970 with a 455, but maybe for a 1971 455 car.

    Phillip,

I have no idea right now. The cable was missing on the car. I will have to try to do some measurements to get a ballpark idea.

carl, i just measured my nos one for the 68-71 GS 455. it is 20 & 9/16 inches total length. i measured the one for the 70 GS 350, and it is like 20 & 1/2 inches total length. the difference was less than i thought. HTH, henry

I'm putting a 455 into my 71 GS350 Conv pronto. Will my existing throttle cable work?

    Say yes, please.

Maybe. Mine did not. Others have. I got a universal one from Lokar. Worked great.

    Mandmautomotive,

What was wrong with yours? Too short?

Yeah, about an inch to short if I remember correctly.
I do not think repos were being made yet. I still
    have not seen one.

Mine was also too short, but I am using the SP1.

When I did the swap on my old Skylark, I used the original 350/2 cable that was in the car. The only thing I had to do was adjust a little silver clip on the end where it connects to the gas pedal so I had enough travel to open the secondarys when I mashed it. Worked for me :beer

OK, got the ones I have out.

The one that was remanufactured for my 1970 455 is 21.25", tip to tip with the point of the mounting clip to carb mount being 4-7/8".

The other two I have are:

21.5" tip to tip and space from mounting clip to end at carb mount 4.25"

19.75" tip to tip and space from mounting clip to end at carb mount 4.75".

The length of the part that goes from the mounting clip to the end where it mounts to the carb is with the cable poulled all the way back, like at WOT.

The shortest cable actually still has it's original BAB tab on it. So whatever BAB was made for, I have it. Both the cables I have available are in very good shape and the mounting tabs are intact on both ends for firewall and intake bracket.

Here's some pics of them. First my new repop next to the other two:

And finally the BAB tag on the shorter cable. Sorry, but that was the best pic of it I could take:

    Phil,

I tried to measure the distance from the bracket to the mounting place on the carb and came out with 6". I thought that distance was weird until I looked at my 71 gs 350. The cable as mounted is actually pulled out about 2" from how I see the cables in your pics. So I am thinking if the 71 455 is mounted the same way, the 4.25" one would probably be about right. Part of the problem is that I don't have the gas pedal in the car. Do you also have one of these?

I have the bracket, but not the pedal itself, if that'll help you along.

On the longer cable, the middle area from clip to clip is 11-3/8". This is from the flat part of the clips.
