    Hi!

So here's my GS - as I heard some of you may even know the car, in which case I would love to hear the story!

4Speed, non A/C-Car, notch back bench seat, gauge package, AM/FM with the under-dash 8track tape player and great patina.
Came with build sheet, the big 1971 Buick shop manual, spare rim and original jack in trunk.
I drove it in California for some days before I had the car shipped to Germany and one can say she survived her first non-californian winter here in Germany very well

The car seems pretty unmolested as far as I can tell :puzzled: Rims, grille, exhaust and N25-bumper are not original though.
Drivers side of body has some damages and one seam of the headliner gave up.

My plan is to keep the car the way it is, since it runs and drives well. Sheet metal seems solid, so nothing to do there.
Some scars, great patina, I will drive it like it is - an old car with history.
Interior is not cracked, torn or worn and the original dash and gauges are in excellent shape, all of them functioning.

however, there is a to do-list..

    - get german registration so i don't have to drive it illegally

    - She's standing on massive tires - 295 rear, 265 in front.. I would like to have her on Buick Rallye wheels with smaller tires. Until I buy those rims I will spray the red ones black :Brow:

    - The original grille came in two pieces - I will try to repair it and put it back on the car.

    - Need new weatherstrip kit, because all seals other than hood-to-cowl-seal are complete junk.

    - I have a bumper which is date correct and not the N-25, but I did not decide yet if I will change it.
Another thing I am not sure about is the tinted rear window, maybe I will get rid of that window tint.

    - If the seam of headliner is repairable - good. If not -> new headliner I guess.

    [...]

Will keep you up to date on any progress :TU:

Cool, cool car - Aside from the grille (very good reproductions are available for maybe 500.00?) I wouldnt change a thing. Go show them what the Autobahn's really for!

    Yesss

The red paint on the rims is in good shape so I decided to treat the rims with plasti-dip instead of painting them. Will work on the hubcaps soon, so I can put them back on.
Here's how it looks now (and will not change until I get hands on some nice Rallye-wheels ).

    Hey.

So recently I got the car through technical inspection in order to get a registration. No problems at all, didn't have to change or repair anything. They stamped a number on the frame and bolted a small new tag to the firewall.
Even the process of registration went unexpectedly well, which - if you are familiar with german licensing offices - is a miracle :eek2:
So German registration is now done and I got historical plates :TU:

Bad news regarding the original grille though. It is missing some smaller parts that broke off, so I will have to buy a new one.

Here's a picture from the latest US-Car Meeting I went to, which was in Hannover

    Hey guys,

I found a set of original Buick Rally Wheels, 15x7.

Since there are a lot of threads on that topic I did some research and I hope I am right when I say that 15x7 rims from 1970 will fit my 71 GS and since I don't attach importance to correct stamps on the rims, I don't need to focus on that.
Do I have to ask the seller about the bolt pattern? And do I have to worry about backspace?

I want to run 245/60-15 on the front of the car, which should be ok with disc brakes.
255 or 265 on the back.
    Any thoughts on that?

    Thanks!

have 245-60s all way round on mine on 15x7, 255 on back would be fine, yes you have to be sure the bolt circle is 5x4 3/4, standard gm car size, back space no issue all the same,

that car cleaned up well, its nice enough to leave as is, they can only be original once, and your seeing a lot more respect for original (not pristine) car now more than ever

    Great, I like the color.

    Couldn't have said it better.
Some day it will be looking "like new" after restoration. But until then I would like to keep the "character" of the car, even the minor damage on the drivers side.

Seller was measuring those rims incorrectly, they were 14x6, so I'm back where I started..

Did find someone on the internet - am I allowed to post websites here? - who's selling a lot of OEM wheels and he's offering me a set of 4 wheels 15x7 with center caps, "repainted and with nice chrome" for $690 plus shipping.
I didn't answer yet. Is that the average price one has to pay?
