1971 LONG ROOF Wagon

Guys, I ALWAYS thot this was a cool wagon... way back, I performed some work on this car perhaps 20-25 years ago... it was a one owner, elserly couple, low mileage car in a nice high end Belleair Community back then. It was always Garage kept. Since then someone put GS emblems on and the latest fellow bought the car understanding it was a RARE GS WAGON... boy, was he extremely disappointed when I explained to him otherwise.
He showed me receipts for $16,500 he paid for it a few years ago when he bought the car from Classics And Corvettes in Tarpon Springs... Someone sold him a bill of goods and the guys he would like to take legal action against are no longer there. go figure.

He as asked me if I wouldnt mind checking around for feedback on pricing. I looked it over pretty well, not a show car, and no where close to a piece of junk either, actually overall, its really in pretty nice shape. A little seat & headliner repair, small exhaust leak, very minor rust bubbles along the passenger side rear glass, nuttin serious, hood and tailgate stripes gotta go, perhaps a few dings... wouldnt take much for it to be a cool "Cruisin' wagon. 350-4, T350, FDB, A/C seems to blow cold, NOT FREEZ'n but cool...71 GS grille looks ORIGINAL and VERY nice, AM/FM factory radidio, REAL nice chrome bumpers, no leaky under the chassis, tires need to be replaced as one has developed a slight wobble ...
Overall, I'd prolly give it a good 8 outda 10.

He understands now, he will prolly have to accept a good size loss on this car as I kinda prepared him, I thot it would be valued maybe HALF what he paid. . ., AS-IS, $6500 - 7000.

    FEEDBACK??

I may be way off, but I'm at about half of where you are. That rust around the rear side window can be terminal with these cars.

This car has been for sale for well over a year - he started at $11K. I drove by it the other day. The owner lives a few minutes from me and I'll be in Fla until Fri if anyone wants anymore pics. During the day, I've seen it outside the owner's office, near the road with the "for sale" sign on it. I first saw it in June 2016 going by our Fla house - his son was driving it and I stopped him and we chatted for a while.

If I saw it for sale here and stopped to take a look, I'd be thinking in my head "this looks like a cool everyday driver if a guy could get it for 5 grand".

Sad he got taken but he saw value in the car & figured it was worth it. Guess he needs to find someone else who sees the same value. I don't think he could take action against the salesman anyway. But sure could against the dealer for fraud.
I would have a tough time paying anything over $4500

Someone already offered him $4500 and the guy baulked. Said he will 'hold out for $7500'... I wish him the best.

Well, I think he'll be "holding out" for a long time. If I were him, and didn't HAVE to sell the car, I'd just drop a little into the car and enjoy it. There is no way to that he will ever get his $$$ back.

I'm no expert, but yep, hate to say it, that's a $5k car (if someone reeeeaally liked it). I personally do like it and think it would be neat, but as Brad mentioned those rust spots are definitely concerning. Bummer the fella got taken for a ride, you really do have to focus on facts and not emotions in this game if you want to not get whacked (too bad) on price.

unless stated on the bill of sale "Genuine 1971 GS SportWagon" the loss is all on him for not doing his own 30 sec. of due diligence on Google before dropping large on something he knows nothing about

I am a Sportwagon guy. The rust behind the windows is potentially a problem unless you do your own bodywork. All of the metal has to be fabricated because of course NOTHING is available for these cars. There would be more cancer in this one too by the bubbled paint on the fender but it shouldn't be too bad. I think the retail number is $5,000 after you find the right "wagon guy". I saw this for sale online when it was for sale by the dealer - I remember laughing about the rare GS wagon crap in the ad, thinking "who would fall for that?" . Someone did, though...

I would think they would have at the least put a GS hood on it . That said , I am always surprised at the number of "car guys" at car events I hear saying "that's a rare car right there , didn't make many of them" . I think to myself , "Yep , one of none" . Been thinking about selling it , kids get older and things change . I hope he finds a buyer .

Tell me about it. LOL. both sides under my windows are bad as are the bottom of the quarters. I would love to find quarters. Last set of NOS quarters I saw for sale years ago was $800 ea. I keep asking some of the Wyotech instructors I know if they want to show their students how to reproduce nonexistent panels. :D:D
Maybe when they get up to speed again.

When I went to WyoTech, we had "customer" cars that students who didn't have their own projects to work on did work to. Lot of chopped tops, shaving of door handles, etc. If it's still the same, they should be able to get your car in there. Only thing was, you couldn't be on a time crunch. Might be 2 years before your rust repairs and paint got done, because one guy might start the project, then another 6 months later another guy might get to do part of it, and so on.....
