Ha! I can’t wait to be one of those. I learn best by doing, so this trial by fire is getting me there. I’ll try these ideas out!

I think I took a wiff of the dipstick when I first took it out, I don’t think it smelled gassy, but I’ll check again. I just filled it with 93 the other night, and a few days before that, too. Should be fresh gas. Looking at the plugs, it does look rich, or drippy, right?

Yes, rich. When you adjust the idle mixture screws, is there any reaction? If you turn them both all the way in, can you stall the engine?

Yep, I can stall it out.. I didn’t just have them horribly misadjusted, did I?

No, that wouldn't do it. Overly rich mixtures would. I wonder if your power piston is stuck in the up position. If you stick a thin bladed screw driver into the carburetor vent with the engine off, you can depress the power piston down. It should spring back up when you take the tension off it. If you then start the engine, vacuum should hold the piston down, and if you wing the throttle, you should see the screw driver jump up. That's one way to test it.

Still learning the anatomy of carburetors, I remember you mentioning that but didn’t know how to test its functionality.

I apologize.. still getting used to the forum, and I had a lot of suggestions thrown out so I didn’t get the chance to check it out.

You are doing just fine Jake. We are throwing a lot at you at once. We want to find the problem as much as you, maybe more, which leads to the frustration.:)

I totally get it.. I was just thinking that I wish this was all at a car show or something - would've taken 5 seconds with all of the masters around. lol.. I'll do every single thing that's been mentioned, then I'll post findings after EVERY one of them is done.

Again, all, I apologize for my ignorance and tomfoolery. Thanks for being patient with me, and for all of your advice. I've got my list, time to get at it.

The only dumb question is the question that was never asked & should have.
