In an attempt to get the correct Air Cleaner Decals (Keep your GM Car all GM) I am in need of a 1972 Assembly Manual provided it has a page containing the Air Cleaner Codes. Like the Photo I posted for 1970 . . . .

So if somebody has a Manual for sale or can post a copy of the Air Cleaner Codes that would be greatly appreciated.

The Photo below shows the 1970 Specs (For reference) This is what I need for 1972!

O'k, my partial '72 assembly manual does not include that page. It should be the same as or close to the page number you have on the page in your picture.

That page shows the numbers for the air cleaner assemblies (complete unit) not for the air filter elements.

    Todd,
I have a couple of complete versions of the 72 assembly manual. If I remember I will look it up tonight.

    If I forget remind me.:D

I checked thru my 72 assembly manual and could not find that chart.

I have 2 versions of the assembly manual here with me and they both have the same sheet that is shown above with the latest revision date of 8-23-71. I have a 3rd version of the '72 assembly manual at home that I will check later. It's the best of the three that I have and is a later version that has many changes that aren’t shown in these 2 earlier versions.

Also this sheet doesn't show the two letter code that is on the air cleaner decal. We have a couple of unrestored '72 Stage 1 cars that have the original air cleaners and decals on them. One car came with the std air cleaner and the other car came with the HD air cleaner option (just a different element inside). I will compare the decals on the two cars.

    It's funny.

My 70 manual I bought from Duane has it on page 6-2.1. which is what Todd has above.
The 71 manual I bought from another vendor also has it on page 6-2.1
But the 72 manual I bought (other vendor) has something different on page 6-2.1 and nothing like that page listed in the Engine section (or anywhere else in the print I have).

    Thanks guys.

Even if I just get the part number I may be able to match that to the current offerings and come up with the two letter code.

I'm working with Mark at Dr. Decal to hopefully get these added to the line up!

1970 & 1971 are available now. I hope to have his Decals in stock soon as well as some of the other offerings out there.

So far from what I understand these are the Codes for the 1972 Models . . . . .

    AN (Standard Air Filter - 455) ??

AO (Heavy Duty Air Filter - 455) ??

    AK ??

I'm not 100% sure on this. We need to confirm all of this 100% before bringing them to market .

Thanks so far for all the input guys!

    Todd,
I checked all of the 72 assembly manuals that I have and none of them show the "keep your car GM" air cleaner sticker codes.

The 72 Factory Engine book does not show it either.

You will have to get that info off an original car to verity it.

    BUQUICK I'm your huckleberry.

So I looked at my photos of our cars and here is what is one our '72 Stage 1 hardtop that was built at the Fremont place in third week of March 1972. This car was ordered with the RPO K45, N3 Heavy Duty Air Cleaner as verified by the three build sheets that we have found in the car.

The decal on the air cleaner has code AO which also matches the build sheets. However, the strange thing is that the part number on the AO air cleaner decal is 6487176. That number is not on the list of decals in the assembly manual but that's what is on the car...6487176 AO code.

Here is the air cleaner code in box 53 of the build sheet:

Here is the K45 HD air cleaner option listed on the build sheet:

Original decal with the AO code. Hard to read in the photo but it's showing part # 6487176. I will go out and double check this in person tomorrow.

So I checked my third assembly manual which is the latest version of the three and the air cleaner sheet 6-5.11 does have a later revision date of 9-24-71 compared to the earlier versions which are dated 8-23-71. However, the air cleaner part numbers are the same. None of the assembly manuals show the air cleaner code.

I don't seem to have a good close up photo of the original air cleaner decal on our unrestored '72 Stage 1 convertible that does not had the HD air cleaner option.

Tomorrow I will get that photo and also verify the part number on HD AO-code air cleaner on the hardtop.

If faithful reproductions are made of each style, I'll take a couple of each.

    Thank you Duane and Gary.

I don't think there were to many decals in 72 so I'll keep taking notes on this and in time get it all sorted!

I talked with Mark today at Dr Decal and he can have these made within a week once we put the puzzle together!

Also, to my knowledge nobody is currently reproducing the AO decal!

There are some AK and AN versions........

I think you are correct about the AO decal not being reproduced. I figured that if I decided to restore the car I would have to have it special made. Looks like I might be able get a couple after all.

So they use different codes every year? My 71 build sheet shows BC C in box #53 for air cleaner.
