    I just love it when idiots take apart or wreck a perfectly good car and then abandon it for 10 years to further rot. I can just see in my mind's eye what might have happened here;

    Chances are the paint was a bit weathered when he first decided he was going to personally "restore" the car. Started off on a warm spring Saturday afternoon. Gonna be an easy flip, he promised his wife the other day, he's got this buddy who knows all about these things coming out to help out. First, that buddy who knew bodywork, who last night swore over a few beer that it was a "piece of cake" and that he'd help him phoned this morning and said he couldn't make it, the missus had something planned that he'd forgotten about, you know, "happy wife, happy life", so now he's on his own. Well, scraping paint off a car ought to be like scraping a fence or a wall down isn't it? No biggie, just start off with the 80 grit and get most of that crap off, it'll be easier to bring down to metal that way. Before that, a trip to the liquor store to get the requisite amount o f beer, it's hot out, then he'll get started. Then a couple of sheets from Home Depot and he'll be laughing. Easy, right? With that, and against the better wishes of the wife who told him to just get rid of it while it has colour, he got started.
    Then he ran out of beer.
    Then, as sobriety crept on and his head began to pound, he realized he hadn't really done much except scratch up a once somewhat presentable paint job. Then he had a decision to make; - buy more beer or buy some sandpaper and continue. I think we know what won out.
    Then it turned into every time the wife complained about that 5000 lb. lawn ornament, "yeah, yeah, I'll get to it. It's still worth something to the right guy". And then the interior was allowed to fry in the sun. Found that out the hard way too, when he sat his a$$ in and everything kind of went "crunch".
    Yup; what started out as an "easy flip, I'll have it done in a weekend" is now the thing the wife and the neighbors are threatening action over. Not to mention, he's no longer in any physical shape to do anything with this car. Guess it's about time to let it go, it'll hurt to just "give it away though", would have been nicer finished. But, when that bodyshop guy he had come out and do an estimate told it'd be at least $15K to get it presentable, well... And then there's the fact that it quit running; don't know what happened there...it ran the last time when he parked it behind the garage, but that was back during the Clinton administration. Hmmph...(shoulder shrug)

    OK, there are a lot of assumptions here, so who knows? All I see here is an expensive, forlorn looking 73 Rivi that is one step away from the crusher, what a crying shame...

    Looks like a really solid car that needs everything. For some reason the word UNDERWATER comes to mind with this car.
