According to what I've read on the G-body forums, you could get a 4 speed with a 6 cylinder, and a 3 speed manual with a V8 in Regals. One guy said there is sales literature for a 4 speed, v8 Regal, but nobody has seen one. Malibus, Monte Carlos, El Caminos, and Cutlass Supremes could come with 4 speeds and some 5 speeds from the factory. I don't recall any info on the Pontiac G-bodies with a manual.
You can see the shifter nub in the column and the third pedal is there but hard to see. A friend of mine had a 79 Regal with a 305 and factory 3 speed stick back in the 80’s. His parents bought it new. Blue on blue.
Got a 78 cutlass saloon in the field with a 260 2 barrel v8 and a borg warner t50 5 speed. All original . So there were a few a/g bodys that slipped thru with clutches
Rear frame rails on those cars in salt belt states are usually questionable. If it was manual trans originally, was likely 231 V-6 with three on floor. There were no three on tree A/G bodies.
Yeah. Tell me about it! I have done many rear rail replacements and frame swaps up here. Not a bad job.
Back in the day, I remember many of these with the back bumper tied up to the trunk hinge with ropes leading into the trunk. Never tailgate one with a drooping bumper.
