I've been scouring Craigslist and other web searches for a rust-free Suburban.

Can be Chevrolet or GMC and I'd take either a K1500 or K2500. Looking for southern no rust and the lower the miles the better. I'd like to keep the purchase price under $6000 if possible. Willing to fly in and drive home.

What have you seen in your area that I might be interested in?

edit: Forgot to add that it should have the rear cargo doors, not the tailgate. I've missed several already and may have a line on another one in Scottsdale, AZ. Should be on the dealer lot Thursday and they've already had four calls on it from northern states!

I will keep an eye out four you but as you know finding a clean untampered with or “BLINGED”Original can take years.
I finally found a father and then son owned 149,000 C1500,Posi rear (after friend talked me out of 4 wheel drive concerns) not a rip or tear in the interior, and no paint delaminization on top panels. Cleanest one I have ever seen down here(not one speck of rust) and I paid up to get it but it carries everybody and everything in style (rear a/c,perfect seats, factory exhaust but still HOWLS when you need to pass!).
Anyhow if I see a K-1500 I will pass it along.

My buddy has a rust free 96 k1500 burb in east longmeadow ma. Solid and no rust but needs a little engine work . I would have bought it in second but he wasn't ready to sell when I needed it and then I found a solid 02 k1500hd 4 Dr silverado. He went to the dark side and bought a 17 ford Aluminum can f150 With half the tow capacity of the burb.

Quick question: why does it have to be a '99? And you're looking for one in the earlier body style, correct? As in a generally called c/k bodystyle like an '88 on up pickup? Just curious so I know what to look for for you....we bring in 40-50 trucks and suvs a month, if we get a really clean '96 or something for instance, is that ok?

I’m looking for a ‘99, though a ‘97 or ‘98 would work as well. I have a snow plow that only fits ‘92-‘99 and I like the later Vortec 350 so i’m Leaning towards the,99.

Never thought about Seattle area having rust free vehicles, are they clean on the underside?

Washington is a no road salt state... Lots of vehicles get sold to out of state buyers.. Less sun baking. Now Moss they may have. For the most part most vehicles are clean on the underside. Now if you go out on the coast. That could a different story.. Eastern Washing they use stuff on the road its not salt but it does funny things on some trailers that I've seen.

picture this looking at the back looking forward of a boat trailer frame, the paint looks good,, Now stand in the front look towards the rear the paint is gone. Like it being drug though sand covered roads..

Found a ‘99 K2500 Chevrolet Suburban with 127K miles in Scottsdale AZ, just brought in from California. One concern is the pictures show the dash when it’s idling and oil pressure gauge only shows 20lbs, shouldn’t that read closer to 40?

Anyone near Scottsdale that could take a look at it?

It's not uncommon for the vortecs to run around 20lbs at idle I've owned 20 of them

    Hi Ken,
Just curious...what are the improvements that a `99 Vortec would have versus the `first year `96? On another note, I`m pretty sure the `99 would have 4 wheel disc brakes? The biggest complaint I would have about our `96 is the disc/drum brakes,

You need to research "transfer case pump rub" before you go shopping. The transfer case only leaks when running, and ultimately burns up. I have a 99 tahoe 2wd. They are excellent trucks.

I was just given a '99 GMC K1500 SLT Suburban by a co-worker, brought it home last Thursday. A lot of miles on it. The rear went on him leaving work, he said if I towed it out of there I could have it. I just want it for the engine, runs good, going to rebuild it for my son's El Camino. Once he gets the title to me I plan on parting out the rest. I see no rust on the body at all so far. The leather bucket seat interior is mostly shot but some of it is good, most everything seems to work. If any one needs parts let me know, I can ship small stuff but larger parts will need picked up.

Before you pigeon hole yourself into a 99 you might give a call to your local plow dealer. Used frame brackets are plentiful and cheap. Unless you have a homemade setup I bet you can easily locate 2000 and up brackets. I paid $100 bucks for the 05 i have. I reused everything else from the old truck.
