    Wooooooooooooooooooooooo Hooooooooooooooooooooooo

Damn, that is the most fun you can have with your close on.

The Corvette ran an all time best 13.84 @ 100 mph. :3gears: :3gears:

As always, just a great great time. I want to thank everyone who helped me over the past year with words of encouragement and advice. :beer

I wanted a sub 14 second run all weekend, and collected 14.10, 14.08, 14.05, 14.12 slips. This morning's first run was a hysterically close 14.001, then I finally broke through.

Congrats to every one of the 108 cars that showed up, everyone was a winner today. :TU:

Bob and Dan, you guys are amazing !

    Jimmy who?? :bglasses:

JJ certified, reassembled engine, fired it up and spun a bearing. Pieces of bearing in oil and filter.

If it weren't for bad luck Jimmy would have no luck at all!

Jimmy did drive someone elses car, a 455 Pontiac T-37 and won his shootout with it.

    What a super time...........

    Way to go Donny! :bglasses:

Ramrod wasn't quite enough for the 429 Ford, but at least I got the 2nd round. I think it's just as much fun to try and beat a faster car than lay back and be the faster car. I sure had a ball. Only 3 lights I had all weekend in the .500-.650 range were the three rounds. All the rest were .470-.480's and over .700. Good time to get some .560's.

Hope Jimmy gets it fixed in time for Commerce Challenge. Glad to see the Nova wasn't hurt too bad and got back in time for Sunday.

Also hope Miller never brings a car to Pure Stock again. The food at the hotel tailgating party was fabulous, thanks to all the guys from Western Michigan. Goooooooooood Stuff.

Thanks again to Dan and Bob, for a great show. Would have no problem preregistering for next year right now.

    Who's going to Commerce?

What a weekend!!!!!!! Had the time of my life. :beer For those whom thought I was car less were shown otherwise. Mr. Arp and I made the trip from the Chicago land area with trailer in tow. First time out and the Cortez Silver machine did all right. If the driver would have drove with any skill I think I would of had Casey and the F-85.

Mr. Marks got me in the best 2 of 3 in that gorgeous beauty of his with that Rocket 350 Olds. We had a good time, thanks for the good sportsmanship. Meet a bunch of faces that I can now put with the internet names. Good to see you all.

Dan and Bob, great show as usual. You guys get it right with Mother Nature every time. Thanks so much!! :TU:

    Agreed !!

As always .... a good time was had by all !! :beer

Jim proved us all wrong -- he actually DOES own a car ! :eek2: And coincidentally enough we got paired up together. A better competitor couldn't be had. Thanks a bunch Jim for being patient with me on the first round ...... I did my burnout, and then blllllaaaaaah - - the car died. :puzzled: Helmet off, hood up .... The damn coil wire came off .... Easy fix, but it sure was tense for me for a minute or two ......

Both Jim and I qualified with a 12.82x, so it was good racing - 3 rounds even !! :3gears: A 12.82 is my personal best with the W-31. I've got nothing to complain about, considering about 2 weeks ago I was planning on bringing the 'Scayne.

Talk about a $h!tload of spectators !! The stands were PACKED on Saturday. That was very VERY cool to see all of the interest in the cars.

As always, this time of year is bitter-sweet......THE race of the year is followed by the knowledge that this is the last race of the year too. Now what am I to do until next year ??? Anything left in the W-31 ? :Brow: Maybe, we'll see ........ :Do No:

    Rusty made it back OK.

JUst heard from Rusty Small and he just pulled in to his driveway after driving the 69 Hurst back solo. He stayed overnight in Springfield, Ill and got a fresh start this A.M.

Only had to use the Chevy wrench once on his starter.

Stopped at the Phenix Bar and Grille in beautiful downtown Edmore on the way out to get a burger and Dennis Gage and his partner sat down with us at the bar. Had a nice chat and a beer with him. Kept having the urge to yank on that handlebar. :Brow: What a nice person. And he's even from Indiana (Evansville). :eek2:

    Oh Lucccy, I'm home!!!!!

Wow, was that great! As Dave said, I only had to use the 'Chevy wrench' once on the way home. The car also made better milage coming back home. (note to self, run at less than 80 and change the plugs more than once every 4 years! :spank: )

Want to give a big war whoop to Jeff for doing a "Pontcracking" tune on my Q-jet. Casey, Pete, and Steve knew that I flog that car on every pass, but when a simple adjustment on the carb nets a .16 gain in e.t. over qualifing and picks up 2 mph! :TU: New best time for my car with a 13.56 @ 101.7. Not bad for a car that weighs in at 4200 w/driver, 3.23 gears, and was driven 790 miles one way!

Big thumbs up to Oem6Pak for letting me draft him from Des Moines on. Thanks to rdl for helping find a starter that, fortunately, I did not need to change. Dave H. for helping me out with the plugs. For Pete, Casey, Brian, and Tim for helping me dispose of some beer! :beer To Rob and his dad, for letting me bunk up with them. I had briefly met Rob's dad at St.Louis and getting to know him I see the apple does not fall far from the tree! Thanks to Frank and his wife for keeping me fed on Friday. I swear, I could not have gone into that pit and walked out without some food! :pp

Since they are not on this page (yet), I have to fly the H/O flag high! All three of the '69 H/O's in attendance this weekend drove to the meet. We all won our shootouts, and I think that Kurt Karch ('69 H/O advisor) and myself had to have had the closest race on Friday. Difference at the strip .014! :3gears:

Wow, Dave, and you lived to tell about it!!!

Rusty: Glad to hear you made it home, and it was a pleasure having you hang out with our crew Friday. Next year we must just have a V8 Buick BBQ there on friday!

I won my rounds against a 340-6 AAR 'Cuda. But not without some drama. Somewhere during my fourth pass on Friday my eccentric bolts must have shifted or something because I developed some rather unique front end geometry. My front wheels looked liked Marty Feldman's eyes! But we climbed under that pig and found everything was tight and where it belonged. No clues what happened. It was interesting to steer, but I kept it between the lines all the way down.

    Oh yea ......

I agree with the others. Miller isn't allowed to buy another car. He is the Official Chef of the Pure Stock Drags. Him and the cronies from the SW side of the state put on a FEAST Friday after time trials, in the hotel parking lot, that was AWESOME !! :TU: :beer

I can proudly say ........ "I got some loin from Tom Miller" :puzzled:

Enjoyed it? Thats the under statement of the day!

The Miller and friends tailgate party was better than a Notre Dame tailgater,
and I didn't gave to go to a boring  football game to enjoy it!

Not only that, Saturday morning when I stopped by in the pits to express a big "Thank You", Tom and friends were serving breakfast. Johnsonville Brats or cereal and milk ! !

Drag racing, good friends and a tailgate party. It don't get a whole lot better !!
