JJ over Pete in the finals..... and Julie Penninton took out Dave Dudek in Bob's Hemi Cuda, and I think Rob Clary got Jim Spetzman in the other top matchups.......

John Brown On permanant vacation !!

    Top dog: Jim Johnson 11.6's @122 :eek2:
    #02 dog: Copo Peter Simpson 11.67 @???
#03 dog: Julie Pennington 11.92 during qualifying @???
#04 dog: Dave Dudeck driving Bob K's Hemi Cuda, 12.19?

In the coulda, woulda, shoulda column, put Julie and Terrys L88 Corvette. The car ran crappy all during Friday qualifying. Wouldn't run off the line or the big end. Turned out the carb had a cracked base plate. Terry put a spare 4296 Holley (doesnt everyone carry a spare $1000 dollar carb??) on the car and instantly turned a 11.58 Saturday morning. Needless to say Julie cleaned up on the Hemi cuda with an 11.67.

A big THANKS to all who make this event what it is.

As usual, it was great to see old friends, and to meet new ones.

    Friday was cold,windy,miserable. But...it wasn't a rainout like we had 2 years ago:rant:

Parking lot cookout was great, only thing that would have made it better was if the High Performance Pontiac Shootout people would have saved some Lamb-ka-bobs for the rest of us grease monkey's:rant: Just Kidding:laugh:

    Thanks again to all.

Did anyone notice how full the stands were?:eek2: This has to be the best place on the planet to see the widest variety of beautiful Musclecars:bglasses:

Thanks to Dan and Bob for going overt the top again this year.
What a great time and the best car people to hang with for a couple of days.
Did not get home until 1:00 am to Lexington. Our caravan of 2 tow vehicles and my buddies 69 firebird stopped for gas at 10:00pm in Dayton for fuel.
Got ready to leave and the firebird just cranked and cranked.
We diagnosed no spark and guessed either the distributor or the coil. Luckily I had brought an extra distributor, and we put that in and it fired right up.
Total down time was about 30 min.
Cant wait until next year when we will have a couple of new cars at the race:pray:   :dollar:

Jim, I lost my final race by .0040.... at 104 mph, how many inches is that ??

  14. Dave H

    Dave H Well-Known Member

    .004((104x88)/60 = ?feet

Can't find my slide rule, anybody got a calculator or an abacus board? This will give you # of feet, think you can get to inches from there.

    Key is 88 ft/sec= 60 MPH......

This is hurting my brain.........thought I had killed those brain cells years ago.

Donny that is 1ft 5 inches. Just think, if you were John Holmes you might have won that one. LOL......................:Brow:

Dan and Bob, a BIG thank you for letting me participate in the fun this year. I was a spectator for the first time in 99 and got hooked. Since my W-31 is, wait for it Brian, cosmetically challenged, I decided to go buy another car to participate. Dan saw it at Martin in June and informed me of what needed to change in order to bring it to Stanton. Well, other than the hood, changing the oil and checking the plugs I didn't anything to the car between Martin and Stanton. To say my experience as a first time participate in this event was OUTSTANDING would be an understatement. I caravaned home with the 2 69 H/O and had a fill in driver for part of the trip. A buddy of mine called me and I talked his ear off for an hour about how @#$^$%^ cool it was to be a participant (good thing I wasn't driving!!!!). She could tell how excited I was talking to my friend.

Since I still don't have a working tach I decided lets try to break the car this year. Well, I felt it nose over a few times on fri, then shifted. I thought I may have hurt something on my third run but apparantly nothing serious. The worn posi was an issue, as is my ability to launch a 4sp. Car ran about .1 off what it did in Martin. head wind? Sat, she was running much better. Only thing I did was air up the tires (Thanks Mark and great to finally meet you). That cold morning air and lack of headwind made a difference. First run I already shaved a .1 off my qualifying ET. next run, a 15.001 at 95 and change. STILL no 14, but it's there. I just need to get the launch down. And now I'm almost .2 under my qualifying ET.

I was matched against a yellow 69 Z-28 4sp car. He took the first run with a 14.93 (on a 15.23 qualifying ET) against my 15.25 (on a 15.17 qualifying ET). Not exactly moving I know, but we have to start somewhere. He ran .303 under his qualifying ET. I didn't hear if they were still going to enforce the .3 breakout rule, but we wanted to run some more anyway. Second run, he bogged off the line and had a horrible 60ft. It was enough for me to get the victory. Third and deciding run, I gave him a .1 headstart at the tree but he bogged off the line again and I pulled the best time to turn in my best 60 ft with the car, which was .14 better than him. I ran a 15.011 @ 95 to his losing 15.13 @ 96. I won by .04. And it didn't matter whether the .3 breakout was in effect as I beat him both ways.

The last two runs in my shootout I started to get a feel for launching a 4sp and the 60ft were the best I've done with the car. After the shootouts were completed I decided to make a couple more runs to try for that 14. First run I missed third gear. Good thing I did that then. Last run was a 15.12 at 95 and change. I decided that was enough as the trans was acting up off and on all weekend, popping out of 4th gear.

At 104mph your going 152ft/sec,therefore .004 seconds =.61 ft or about 7 inches. With apologies to Mr Holmes, this is more realistic in the real world.
