Car is basic stock 300 cu in engine and has about 114k miles.

    No sign of transmission rebuild.

Fluid smells fine and looks ok, tastes kinda good too!

The other day while backing out of parking space I put into drive and floored it, more to see if carb would barf or act right. Didn't hesitate, but it seemed as though the transmission slipped before fully engaging.

I see there is a low band adjustment screw on the external of the case, and recommended adjustment is every 24,000 miles. I don't think this has ever been done.

Adjustment is supposed to be to tighten to 40 inch pounds and then back out four turns, set lock nut.

Is this what I need to do? How much is 40 inch pounds (don't have an inch torque wrench). Is that like tight with a short handled wrench or what.

Thanks for any insight you can provide.

40 inch pounds is 3 1/3 foot pounds. That's about the power of a mouse fart. I would tighten it until it stops and not snug it. Then back it off.

Ok, I think I can handle that.
Just curious, would be a field mouse or a house mouse. Either way thanks.
