i think i goofed by using the mounts from the smashed skylark i got the motor out of and sat the motor down in the car with mounts on and traced where i thought it should sit and pulled back out and i drilled new holes for the mounts on the crossmember. i remember trying to use the 307 mounts and wouldnt fit correctly, maybe i was wrong somehow? well i got it in and of course the tranny crossmember doesnt wanna work without having to drill more holes, i guess my question is should i pull the motor back out and use diff mounts? If so which mounts should i get? anybody done this swap before? whats the right way to do it lol anyway any help would be greatly appreciated thanks

This is a simple swap, you need the frame pads and engine mounts for a 88 Cutlass, Regal, Monte, or Lemans that came with a Buick 231 V6. The BUick 350 shares the same engine mounts as the 231. The mounts can be ordered new and the frame pads need to be found at the junkard or used online most likely.

Even with the v6 mounts and pads you may have to drop it down to see where the mounts need to be located but there should be no hole drilling this is a bolt in swap.

I would put the trans in first, then the engine mock up then drop the engine back in once you have the frame pads tightened.

Which trans are you using for this swap?

using a th 350 also when i did this i had the driveshaft done so it would fit and am not sure if it will be correct if i remount the motor, do you think ill be better off remounting and getting a diff shaft or leave it and try to weld something on my crossmemeber to make the tranny mount up?

You should have had the 200r4 overdrive trans in your car, if so then all you need to do to make the th350 fit is un bolt the crossmember and move it to where it needs to be.... The holes should already be in the frame.

WRONG!Sean Buick; The "G-body" crossmember does not just slide forward like on the "A-body"; There are different design crossmembers depending on engine and/or transmission used. Cars that use the Chevy engine have solid mounted direct bolt to frame crossmembers; Buick engine cars had rubber isolators on the crossmember to frame connection. Also the 200-4R overdrive trans car trans crossmember was offset for the BUICK TURBO REGAL cars, and required an offset mount.

If you're going with a TH-350 trans, and your olds 307 had 200-4R overdrive trans, you'll need a crossmember from a 78-88 "G-body" car that did NOT have a overdrive trans: TH-200c; TH-350; TH-350c; ANY of the 3 speed automatic trans cars. (If the donor car has the Buick 231 V-6, it will have the correct crossmember. Get the frame isolators and bolts along with the crossmember). The driveshaft will be the same length and spline for TH-350, TH-350c, TH-200, & TH-2004R.

Since you will probably want a dual exhaust with that V8 engine, you may want to go with an aftermarket cross member such as:

    41050 - Jegster Double Hump G-Body Transmission Crossmember for TH350 $129.00
    http://www.jegs.com/i/Jegster/550/41050/10002/-1?CT=999

    41051 - Jegster Double Hump G-Body Transmission Crossmember for 700R4 $139
    http://www.jegs.com/i/Jegster/550/41051/10002/-1?CT=999

    These 1978-88 G-Body transmission mount crossmembers are made from 1-1/2'' x 2-1/2'' x .120'' Rectangular Tubing.

    G-Force Crossmember, TH400 / 200-4R 1978-1983 G-Body $259
    http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...6fff236a3&rvr_id=&ua=?*F?&itemid=130257310641

If your are happy with the engine position and since the driveshaft is already at the proper length, I would just shift the crossmember mounting a little if possible at the mounts that are welded to the frame.

When I put the 231 V6 in my Regal where the 307 Olds engine came out the V-6 pads that I had mounted to holes already drilled into the cradle. I know the 1987 pads I used would have worked for installation of a 350 SBB, but do not know of the engine pads from 1970 were the same

To wire that engine up, you can pull the entire engine harness from a NA Buick 231 V6 powered G-Body. Unplug the harness from the C-100 plug that is under the brake booster, out to avoid splices it should hook things up without stretching too much. You will also need to relocate the battery to the other side. If you want AC etc you can pull all the brackets off a Buick NA V6 that will bolt to the 350 to hook up all the newer accessories

    Hope this helps

You would be best to use the existing 200r4 trans in the car in my opinion.

the existing tranny was also a th350c lock up and i dont know how to tell the difference between my torque converters i guess just throw them in and see how they react or will it mess the tranny up if i accidentally get the non lock up in the lock up tranny

The lockup convertor will be a 12" one while the nonlockup convertor will be a 11" one. Hope this helps.

You can put a non lockup convertor in a lockup transmission and it may work if you drive the car very easy but if you lean on it there is a good chance it will strip out the splines on the transmission as the convertor does not engage enough of the splines.
