You can go buy a 2 to 4 barrel adapter from any parts store. Flip it upside down and use it to bolt a 4 barrel to a 2 barrel intake my 300 has been that way for about 10 years. I got into a pinch with the Rochester I had was trashed. And the remand were worse than the one I took off. So to finish out the season I bought the adapter for 20 bucks and bolted on a holley I had works great. I know it's not an optimal situation but it works. The only thing to watch for was hood clearance. I have two wing nut dimples in the center of my hood. Headers from poston. And a x pipe made a noticeable difference. The swap to a 2004r was the most kick in the pants. Mine is no power house but runs great sounds even better and has enough to be fun. 3.55 gears are next then later a 340 since mine is a gs 340 car. I really don't think a factory 4 barrel intake would run any better. But I have don't have one to compare it to.

    follow up 2bbl info .
so my truck ( 84 dodge 150 2wd 360 , original low comp 50K motor , headers and edelbrock performer ) has been through a couple carbs in the last few days . sold the holley 650 spreadbore vac sec , installed 650 spreadbore DP , installed edelbrock 750 , test drove all . this morning i'm dbl checking edelbrock install and realized it would not take much to adapt a 4412 500 cfm 2bbl holley on there . had a rebuilt carb and adapter and gaskets etc . did it . carb is set up with stock spec parts . a little warm up time , test drive , went pretty good , nailed it a couple times right up to 65-70 range . i saw no big dif between this and the 650's . the 750 did seem a little better . that's back on . I really wanted to try a 4412 HP that I went through but realized the fuel inlet fitting was dif and didn't want to bother with all the switching for just a quick test .
so i'm thinking that if I had a 300 I was playing with it would be worth a try , probably plenty of carb until you get to major mod's .
hint #1 - put something into plenum to catch stray bolts n nuts . hint #2 - don't forget to remove it . don't ask .

Two barrel carbs have their place. (in the trash can, right? lol)
I've always been a fan of larger 2 bbl carbs on a low-mid RPM engine.
Why? Super wide torque curve, which is more forgiving with street gears and transmissions with fewer gears.

my main line of thought was eliminating the cost of a cast 65 4bbl intake ( which looks like shortly is gonna be about $400 ? ) , a few home brew mods to stock 2bbl intake , put the manifold money towards cam , ignition , gear , exhaust etc upgrades . might be money better spent for someone with limited funds .
unlimited funds - no problem .

I agree. You can get a 2 barrel engine to perform just fine, contrary to popular myth.

Maybe so, but the 4bbl will always sound better! :D

Most definitely. I found that 8 barrels and even 16 barrels sound even better than this, and I've heard of the elusive and extremely rare 32 and 64 barrels will make you love no other.

A little info bump . This thread touched on some 300 2bbl thoughts .
So I noticed the other day that both Holley ( sniper ) and fitech have come out with Holley 4412 based 2bbl efi setups . That could be a good option maybe .
Why in the world they didn't do a rochester 2bbl version stumps me . There's gotta be about a zillion of those that could be candidates for swaps .

What are your thoughts on the Holley Sniper 2bbl or 4 bbl as a replacement for the Rodchester 2bbl carb? I have a 300ci engine w/headers backed with a 2004R trans and Protronix Flame-Thrower II distributor.

Well , depends on budget .
Cheapest : 2bbl intake , 2bbl carb . With a few mods $300 max will get you moderate performance increase and good driveability . And that is if you have to buy a rebuilt carb .
If you have to buy a 65 oem 4bbl intake , small edelbrock 4bbl say , if lucky there's $600+ . Add a couple hundred bucks and you're up into the sniper $ range pretty much . Which is why I would like to try a mod'd 2bbl intake with a well mod'd big Rochester 2bbl or Holley 2bbl . Extra money can be used towards gears etc .
No matter what , unless using an oem 2bbl or 4bbl carb , you will be using an adapter . Exception would be a custom made (expensive) intake .
