I bought A set of used 1103 Hooker headers last summer very cheap 20191226_125753.jpg 20191226_185614.jpg at A swap meet .
I have been considering installing them on my 72 Skylark this winter but I was looking at them today A notice someone has modified the two back tubes on the passenger side.
I was wondering if anyone would know why they would have done this and if they would fit my car,it's A AC car.
I have looked at pictures of new 1103 headers and the two tubes were originally curved.

Probably got smashed and the only option was to cut the sections out and replace as best as they could.
You will have to test the fit.

    Hey Dwayne,
They sure do look re-worked. I know they fit a car with A/C because my car has A/C and they fit nice. I'd go take a look at mine right now to give you a guess-timate as to why they did that, but my car is under a tarp and it's raining.

I just went out and was looking at my car and I'm having second thoughts about trying to take my manifold bolts out, I'm worried about breaking the bolts.
It would be my luck to go through the trouble and the header not work were it has been modified.

Yes this may be a smart move! Manifold bolts are a big issue when so many years go by and they often break.

I am not worried about fitment issues, they look fine.

if you do push forward then here are a few tips:

    1. Spray PB blaster on the bolts
    2. Drive the vehicle for 30 minutes
    3. Let the vehicle sit for 30 minutes
    4. Take a hammer and firmly tap each bolt squarely with the hammer. 3 good hits.
    5. Use a socket and tighten each bolt a bit.
    6. Start loosening the bolts carefully. If they show resistance then tighten them back up a bit and spray more PB blaster

Are the dreaded center bolts any easier to access compared to Hooker Supers.

Plus those super thick Remflex gaskets take up more room yet.

Here is a pic of them on my engine. They look nice but I am not really a fan of headers for the most part. Have to say these with glass packs sound really good

Ryan, those plug wires look like they are held up by telephone poles.:D I know you are trying to keep the 70's nostalgic look but seems like you don't want them to touch anything.:D
Don't you like the tucked away look?
And yes, headers being thin walled tube give you that nice hollow ping sound! That's music to me....:)

Yes I wanted to use what was with the car from back in the day (nostalgic look) I kind of like the yellow silly string look :p That said I also really like how clean your engine looks. If I was going stock I would do them like yours but I definitely wanted the engine to get some attention and look a little crazy. Dave had me promise not to put a LSx motor in it :D just imagine the hate I would get for doing that:eek:

The wires don't look so bad in the engine compartment.

I bought a spool of Packard 440 wire in black in the 70's & made my own sets using Rajah terminals. It was 17 strands of stainless and would mess everyone's AM radio up at the lights.:D

Wear clean gloves when you handle those wires to keep them from getting grubby!:D

I agree that they fit an A/C perfectly. they do in my wagon. I was real lucky my exhaust bolts came out perfectly. Not one broke.
