I have a 350-4 intake with a large X cast into it. I will upload pictures tonight. Is there anything special/experimental with X casting? I am not going to use it but want to make sure I know what it is.

    Hi,

I found a pair of single 4v AL nailhead x-casting intakes, and there was the "X-standard length casting number".

From what I can gather is X-castings were either preproduction or engineering test samples dyno or casting sample, also most of these were supposed to be destroyed after testing or a given amount of time.

Rumor has it at one time Buick scrapped dumpsters full of experimental engine parts.

Good find, at worst it will be a good conversation piece.

    Regards,

It is a 70 intake, and I would guess it is a mold identifier.

You may need to do a little more research regarding the presence of a cast 'X' in the intake. While I know there are threads regarding the various "finds" of experimental and pre-production cast parts, for some reason, I thought that some pics actually had the letter 'X' what was obviously hand made rather than a nice, clean 'X'. That's why I am thinking that it might be a mold identifier of a regular production. either way, do a little more research on it.

I'm not the authority by any means but every experimental "x" casting piece I've seen is a very sloppy hand carved x. I don't think you have anything special

Thanks for all the replies. I bought this off a board member and if it was a valuable piece was going to split any proceeds as I will not be using it.

The extra heavy comment is true....
