Used 401 shortblock that turns over. I don't know anything about it other than that. Only $100. Block is located in Northern California. Local pickup only. Will help load. Will post pics if anybody is interested?

It would help tremendously if we knew what the engine code & VIN number on the engine is to know if it's from a '63 or earlier or a '64 up.
The two letter code is located in front of the valley cover on the right side & the VIN is located on the same except on the left. It doesn't matter what year car it came out of as it could have been changed at some point in it's life. An example for an engine code would be JT for a '63 or a KT for a '64 or an LT for a '65. The VIN will start with something like 6K/7K etc. which will tell us what kind of car it came out of like a Riv. an Electra, or Wildcat.
Knowing this easy to obtain info will open up the interested parties without a million questions that you may not be able to answer.

Thanks for the location info. I wire brushed it and and the numbers are KT081 8K1007220. On the rear behind dist are the numbers B1364705 with a large 5 Then a 8/19. It appears to to have pop up Pistons . Like I said I don't know much about these motors . Was told it was a 401?

KT is a '64/401. 081 is some kind of date code. 8K 8 I believe is Electra & K='64. The rest of the numbers, 1007220 should match the VIN of the car. I don't believe I saw any '64 Electra's in the pics you posted so the engine appears to be a replacement if it came out of a '64 Riv.

I did my best to find homes for those rivieras or at least the parts . They weren't mine and hated to see them crushed. My yard was too full. This motor came from the same place.

  8. If you have Facebook join "the almighty Buick nailhead" group and you'll sell that engine in no time. There are a lot of group members in the northern California area.

I am not on Facebook ,but I will check it out. I'm a mopar guy who gets in some Buick stuff now and then. I just pulled a 300 motor and trans out of a 65 sport wagon . Very original with all brackets, etc. wagon left the road in 1977. A pair of very nice rust free 65 fenders. I was going to scrap the 401 if nobody wants it.? I would rather not do that. I would even trade it for other heavy scrap weight ! I however thought the motor turned over ,but it does not. Thanks

If you just pulled a 300 from a '65 Sportwagon it probably has the 4 barrel intake on it. Check it out. Those intakes are rare and you'll probably find a buyer for it in no time. The kick-down "Dog Dick" is pretty rare also. It's probably a "355" high compression engine. Most station wagons had them.

The 300 is a 2blb. I have listed here with pics in pay it forward section. Times up for the nailhead. Just giving it a last call. It going out on Thursdays scrap truck. $50 or trade it for a equal scrap weight.
