Just freshened up the plant in my 70GS-455. Started as stout 470 iron head stage1 plus set up with TA 290-08 cam and 11” 3800stall converter. Tore down and with advice from Jim W and reading through the forum here I got it done. Updated cam, intake, heads, oil pump, carb, distributor, fuel system, cooling and a few other things. 470 rotating assembly, 11:1comp, diamond 22cc pistons, SP-2 port matched intake, ST1 TE heads with 2.26” intake valves ported at TA flow 340int 235exh at valve lift .570, TA timing cover oil pump, deep oil pan, flowkooler water pump, 1000cfm Prosystems carb, MSD 6-al, Coated dual groove cam bearings with hyd roller 243-249 cam, Johnson lifters, 1.7” ratio rockers, 1 7/8” headers, 9.5” TSP converter matched to cam. A lot of other things but turned out great. Couldn’t be happier. Runs 180 cruising and 190 in stop go traffic.
This is the "ol' blue" that I built. I miss that car a lot!!! Dale is doing a fantastic job of taking care of her...... in fact I think he's "spoiling" her a little bit!!! LOL The old combo ran mid 11's all day long and it was fairly mild. These changes should make a BIG difference in the "seat of the pants feel" as well as dip into the 10's!!! Love it!!
Assuming the old combo included the ported big valve 430 castings I bought from him, I'd say ~90 more cfm on the intake side and 80 on the exhaust would amount to something! I wouldn't think 10's would be a problem for it.
