Hung out with a fast crowd this weekend!! Low 6's to be exact! J. Kolby's Nova built by Larry Larson Race Cars. He hauled it from California to Wisconsin to show it off to all his "hometown buddies" as well as to make a few passes. Didn't get to run it though, because of weather conditions, but hung out and talked a lot of "smack"! LOL What a super clean car and what a great job Larry and crew did on it! Almost more "show car" than "race car". It's no wonder they get BIG money for this level of work and speed. It's somewhere in the neighborhood of 3000 HP! 10:1 BBC with twin turbos that can be switched from gas to alcohol with the push of a button. I believe I heard that Larry test drove it to a 6.38. The owner has gone 7.50's so far, but his age, (a few weeks from being 80!) are holding him back for a "full on" pass. What really amazed me is that there are sensors on EVERYTHING!!! Shocks, struts, 8 egt sensors, drive shaft, everything!! All linked to a PC output so every aspect of the pass can be seen, recorded and analyzed. It definitely gives me "motivation" to get my car done!!
That level of build is almost art,..I seen where Tom Bailey went a 5.99 at drag week,..absolutely insane
Any idea of the history of that car? The reason I ask is because I had a `66 Nova SS way back, which actually began life as an L-79 car. I bought it from a guy in Atlanta without an engine/trans but had mini-tubs, roll bar, etc. All I needed to do was put my engine in but I never got around to it and eventually sold the car to a young guy from Burlington, WI. Kurt Fredericks if I remember correctly. He eventually turned the car into what almost appears to be the same car in your photos, although I don't remember to color it was at that time. Kurt used to race it regularly at Union Grove but the last time I saw him, which was years ago, he had what I remember as a Pro Mod car and said he'd sold the Nova to a guy in California. The mention of bringing this car to Wisconsin has me wondering if it might be the same car. Just curious.
Hi Bill, This guy owned and raced this car for a lot of years while living in WI. At some point he had it tubbed and "Pro Steeted". Then he really got the bug and sent it to Larson Race Cars for a complete re-do. The one you know of must have been similar, but then again there are tons of tubbed Big Block Nova's out there. This one has a pretty long history with this owner.
Thanks Steve, I thought it was a long shot but you never know. Would have been interesting had it been the same car.
