I have 64 electra with the 425 nailhead. I'm currently running the stock rochester 4jet 4gc carb. I've been having random flooding issues. Carburetor been dissected and thoroughly cleaned a few times now and still very a random flood issues. I've tried newly rebuilt carbs, Edlebrock 1406, even a 67quadrojet 4bbl..... Same results apond initial start up. I took the stock carb apart and cleaned it (again) did nothing different then the menu times before. It's been running good these last 3 days so far. Why would my carbs flood out even after being rebuilt or from working perfectly fine prior to installation? I was dealing with a fluctuating idle before I put the stock carb back on this last time.... No vacuum leaks at all..... Newbie to the nailhead engines.

could be dirt or something getting between needle and seat.

What is your carb inline fuel pressure?

Multiple carbs of different types and the same problems, leaves the fuel pressure as a common and unchanged aspect.

Are you sure it is the correct fuel pump?

I had one that baffled me for a while- the float had a tiny leak- it would sit for a while and it would start and be ok, but if I ran it for an hour the float filled up and stopped floating- major flood.

Is this flooding condition random in regards to engine temps, or only on restart after sitting hot?

Clean everything in the carb, all was removed and installed back properly

Apond my 1st cleaning, the secondary float had a pin hole in it, replaced it with one from a spare 4jet I had laying around... Still got flooding afterwards

Doesn't seem to be, before things start performing better it would flood as soon as 2 seconds after I start the car which would result to me having to cut the car back off..... After the last cleaning everything seems to be fine but I don't know why the problem presented itself then disappeared. Trying to eliminate it from happening again on the road away from the house

i would change your fuel filter, and take the old one apart.

OK I will definitely do that.... Its the stock style filter (1in and 2outs). Will be trying the clear inline instead

IF it's been flooding on a regular basis I WOULD ALSO change the oil & filter. In the scheme of things it's CHEAP insurance compared to the MAJOR problems that can be caused. Guaranteed there's fuel contamination & fuel doesn't do very well as a substitute for engine oil.

yes one in two out if you have a 1/4 inch return line. yes oil and filter too makes good sense.

Had an original 3921 AFB that would flood 5 min after shutdown - screwed with it for months and finally fixed it with a Q-Jet!

If you have any old rubber fuel line between the fuel filter and the Carb today's Alky cut pump fuel will cause it to fall apart and then you can get little bits of hose hanging up your needle and seat.
Ask me how I know this!

I broke the motor down about 6 months ago. All gasket and seals been replaced.... But your right with all that flooding I'm pretty sure gas got down into my intake from the carb. I changed spark plugs just to be on the safe side, they wasn't fouled but still change them.. Like you said "insurance"

What's your view on glass fuel filter vs plastic? I heard vapor lock is more apparent in the glass ones

dont know i use the metal ones lol. never had a problem. the return line should cure vapor lock.
