Hey everybody, I just wanted to say hi to all y’all Buick lovers. My brother has talked about this site for years, but I was Buickless, so I didn’t stop by much. My first car was a 64 Buick Skylark 2-door hardtop. I loved that car, but it was stolen, vandalized and rolled over a bank into a creek. I have had a 72 Skylark, a 73 Electra 225, and a 74 Century. I have always wanted another 64 Skylark, and now I do. It needs a lot of work, but it will be a labor of love.
This forum has been my go to for buick info for a lot of years... It really stands out among automotive forums for having a great knowledgeable-to-moron ratio Ive been on tons of auto forums over the years and the amount of disinformation/ignorance/hearsay being passed around as fact is stunning V8Buick has Buick owners, and Buick knowledge and experience is hard earned, not vomited at you in every copy of HRM like furd/chebby info.
Welcome to the forum. 64's are great looking cars that always get a lot of attention. This is a good place for information and help. You should join the BCA as well.
Thanks for the encouragement. I look forward to posting updates on how things are going and I welcome any advice.
Hi Joe: Be sure to check out my reproduction '64 Skylark reverse lenses and gaskets. More info here: http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?th...d-special-reproduction-lenses-gaskets.315372/ Thanks!
Nice engine huh? My parts car will help some, but it is a two barrel 300. I will be removing the front clip, engine and transmission. I want to upgrade the brakes, suspension, AC, alternator, and possibly the steering. This on top of an engine rebuild. I have been a mechanic for over 30 years, on helicopters, LOL. I would appreciate any advice on making these upgrades on a pretty tight budget
When I was younger, I had a Stage 1 455 in a 72 Skylark. I don’t need to bark my tires without trying at my age, but I want to squeeze what I can out of my 300. I want to get the brakes and suspension able handle mountain roads at respectable speeds.
I bought my first 1964 Buick skylark two-door hardtop for $150 back in 1977. Things have changed a little since then. I only drove it on dirt roads, since I was just 13, but it gave me a lifetime love of Buicks. A series of unfortunate incidents removed all Buicks from my life for a while, but I’ve always dreamed of having the chance to have another Skylark. When I was dating my wife of 32 years, I drove a 72 Skylark. She loved that car. I would have been happy with a 64 or a 72, but when I saw this poor 64 Skylark Convertible destined to be parted out, or worse, I had to rescue her. After all she was born the same year I was.
My first ‘old’ Buick was a ‘64 Skylark convertible, white with a brown interior. It was rough around the edges but a great college car and gateway to this wonderful Buick world. I really like the looks of a ‘64 (and ‘65). Is yours yellow? . Yellow looks great on them. Patrick
