65 Electra Convertible Barn Find

A friend of mine's dad has had this 65 Electra in a Barn for a couple decades.

At first he was thinking of restoring it himself but I think he realized that his optimism and desire to do so did not match his skills and the realities ($) of such a project.

I saw the car myself not too long ago and it looks like its been in a barn for 20 years. It will need a total go-thru. Lower fender and Quarter rot are there, Engine does not turn with a breaker on the crank. Convertible top looks great but feels like old cloth. Interior has some mold/mildew but otherwise seems in very good shape. those are my impressions, but you should judge for yourself.

At any rate he has asked me to help him get in touch with Buick people who might be interested in the car.

Its located in Greenfield Mass, and I think he is asking in the neighborhood of 2k.

Post here if you are interested and I can put you in touch with him.

Here are all the pics I have.

Just an FYI for anyone who might be interested....

I spoke with the guy a couple days ago and he says the car has got to GO

hes not stuck on price, and is willing to sell to someone who would part it out.

    He just wants it gone.

Sure can Ted, but youve got to clear out your PM box. I talked to the guy today and he is itching to get the car gone, so be quick....

Thanks for your interest. Id like to see this car go to someone into Buicks. I know he is talking to at least one local scrapper and Id hate to think the whole thing was just going to get crushed. Just some friendly advice....be quick because they are wanting it gone.

    Good luck!

If that car goes to the crusher someone needs to pull the cruise control setup including the speedo cluster and the cornering lights including the turn signal switch.

I am glad to get Buick guys after this car. It would be a shame to see it crushed. I am neck deep in a 79 Trans Am at the moment or the Electra would be in my driveway.

Hope it works out for you.

There is a port in Hershey ??

I believe I will hang on to this one. I need a break in that nasty weather up there to go get it.

Well, I was finally able to go get this car on a mutually agreeable date this weekend. 4 flats and sunk into the dirt floor of the hay barn. Brought 4 good tires on Buick wheels , jack and cordless impact got it sitting up like it is supposed to. 3 days of rain there did not help and it was raining as we loaded the car. Luckily the farmer was there with his tractor to move the rolled hay bales from in front of the car. Even more so when I made half way down the pathway through the field where my truck/loaded trailer bogged down in the muck. Stuck it about 10 inches. 4 wheel drive didn't mean crap. Farm tractor pulled it all out with no problem. Then it pulled the farmer's dump truck that also got stuck. Thank God for farm tractors.

Thanks Ken ! And thanks to Bryan Larson for the sale.

Outstanding! I am glad it worked out for you both! Saved that one from the crusher for sure.

And I have been to that barn....I can see where the two days of rain would have made a real mess of things!

It's actually a very decent car. Solid floor pans and frame. The trunk has rust out at both forward trunk body mounts. Almost every '65 Electra I have seen is rotted there.....a design flaw maybe. Chrome is nice driver quality and hardly pitted. Original paint on the car 87K miles. Lower rear 1/4 rust out on the out side. Inner panels are solid. The engine turns free after the water pump belt was loosened. Water pump was stuck but is turning now. Interior is in great shape and looking fresh after cleaning. No a/c but has trunk release ,cruise control, p. windows, 4 way seat, p. antenna, cornering lights, tilt wheel, am-fm radio, posi rear. It's a one owner car with the original sales order and books. The original owner traded a ' 64 Electra 4 dr. hard top in for this one. Even the top is original . Amazingly, the brakes were not locked up. The gas tank has the strong gas smell. No varnish odor= bad gas. I stopped in SC at a station right off of I-95 in Florence that sells 93 ethanol free gas and put several gallons in this car. I may have it running by next week. It was driven into that barn 17 years ago and parked. Everything lines up nice . Doesn't look as if it was ever wrecked in the past. Doors, hood and trunk open and close perfectly. I have a pair of mint front fenders with lights to install and a pair of rare trumpet horns that bolt under the hood . It has a Rochester 4-jet which is going to get tossed in favor of a good working '65 AFB.
