I've been given the green light in F.A.S.T,now waiting for Pure Stock approval.I would like to run in Pure Stock with this car first, then see how it goes, then F.A.S.T if I feel it could be competitive.

    ive floated this question before

and the stumbling block, as i saw it, was the requirement of oe casting heads/exhaust manifolds. now if you have a real 427 fairlane and dont mind using it for racing, that wouldnt be an issue-but-building a clone looked to be a realllllly expensive project under the current rules. it was suggested, when i asked this a couple of years ago, to use a 390 GT, but-its not the same. also, the 775-14 oe tire size might give you fits as well. since i havent actually run a car in these classes and you are pretty successful in them, the tire size might work out ok for ya. :)

I agree, not a cheap clone.Neither was my Vette. My books show 15in wheels available in 1967.I just think they are very cool. Not looking to set the world on fire.

    Go Get Em!!

Im a gm guy through and through, except-ive always LOVED the 427 fairlanes. when i was barking up this tree a few years ago (and with no close friends in the ford community to bum exotic parts from) i saw a set of correct exhaust manifolds for this combo go over 2 grand on ebay and figured i would never be able to even do a clone. cyl heads and blocks were even higher. these cars do extremely well in the "other" muscle car series, nmca i believe it is. please build one of these so i can root for ya! (love the vette, btw) :3gears:

There's more to the P/S Rules than that. A ZL1 'vette is not permitted. I believe JJ wanted to build one, but was asked not to (requires 50 units built from the factory to qualify). Wayne, your best bet is simply to write directly to Dan or Bob and pose your project idea to them. Good luck.

    numbers should be ok

as i recall, there were 202 67s and maybe 108? 66s built-at one point in time i researched all this-its out there on the net. paul harvey ford actually campaigned a 67 with xl trim, vinyl roof and column shifted c6. theres a lot of pics of that car out there in ford land.

I know Dan and Bob have been asked before about 427 Fairlanes and they were given a green light. :TU:

Stan Palma is suppose to have one there next year.....a 410 hp car I believe.

Speaking from experience FE stands for F---ing Expensive!

A Wayne Nelson 427 Fairlane........Hmmmm, I can't wait to hear what the Mopar boys will have to say about that one.....

    A snippet from the PSMCDR rules;

For 1955 to 1974 muscle cars built in United States and Canadian assembly plants with a minimum warranty of 12 months and 12,000 miles. Factory lightweight cars built for sanctioned drag racing and dealership-built/modified cars are not eligible to participate.

There is more to it than the amount of cars built.

As I said, (and as per Steve A) there's more to the P/S Rules than that. If you wish to campaign a specific car, it is recommended that you call or write to the organizers first.

    R-code

I happen to have a true, survivor '67 fairlane, R-Code in my garage as we speak. Car is undergoing an absolute total restoration. I can ask the owner if he would like to race it when it is finished.

I believe the production total I have info on at home says 183 in 67.

There are photos of it on my picturetrail website.

My eyesight must be going bad. Where's the gearshift on that 67 you're restoring? I don't see it on either the column or on the hump....

    Mike,

It's a 4 on the floor....when the shifter and trans are installed. Right now it is all out of the car being rebuilt.

    Lift off hood

    John
I see hood hinges, did'nt the R-code cars come with a lift off hood with the scoop up front? Or was it an option? The car I plan to built will be lift off hood type. That is one fine beast of a Ford you have in your garage!! :)

I have been told, and keep in mind, I don't know fords....I am not a ford guy, but, I have been told that only the 66 have the lift off glass hoods. This '67 has the internal hood braces flatened, from the factory, to clear the 2 x 4 aircleaner. The VIN, and the stamping on the core support, both have the "R" code where they are supposed to. As for the engine, I haven't seen it yet. It was out of the car already when I took the project on.

    John,
    Very cool car!
I should hook a local owner with your customer. :Comp: His is an original '67 R-code Comet.
427 c/w 2-quads & a 4 speed. 202 post car. Original parts almost impossible. I met a fellow at Carlisle who was selling shocks. He has a pair of NOS rear shocks at home. My friend was interested & I looked around a bit for him.
