One addition to that = 66 Wildcat GS had the red engines too!

I would like to see the car when its done Jason. Beautiful work.

I've known Tommy for years. He has been to almost all my picnics - and this year he brought his mother! (They were in town for a family thing, so it al worked out).

I ususally spend the 4th of July with Tom and today will be no exception. Looking forward to seeing him again.

Yea Tom, welcome to ROA. A very small percentage of ROA members are performance/modified minded and I am also guilty as charged. Guess its the demographics of the association and typical Riv owner. Many Riv folks who post here are the exception. If memory serves, in the past there have been very few if any performance questions. I have learned more about performance enhancements since coming here than anywhere else. Last year I was on the Q&A panel in Sacramento and had a performance question. I had to refer them to V8Buick and/or to BPG because I or no one else could help him. :Smarty:

And here I thought it was a simple matter of all Buick engines going to red in '66.

Standard engines were green (v6, 300 and 401). Optional and hp engines like the 340, 401 in the Skylark GS, and all 425's were red in 1966.

Jason, wish I could have seen it. Looks great in the pics! I know it's a lot of work, congrats!
What did you do with all the hardware....replate (what method) or replace?:TU:

Here are some more pics of Jason's '66 Riviera rolling chassis at the recent ROA meet in Harrisburg - a truly unusual, visible, work of art for 2nd generation Riviera fans !
Thanks again Jason - it was spectacular ! :beer :beer :TU:

Did Darwin Falk stop to chat with you? 66 restoration is one of his strong interests.

    Walt,
Thanks, I'm assuming you mean brake hardware? All hardware including the springs are originals and were replated/refinished. I am making every attempt to restore original parts vs replacing. I scrounged paint stores to find matching colors for the springs. There are a ton of individual brake pieces when you put them all together from each wheel.

    Randy,
Thanks for all the kind words and for the pictures. In all the fun, I only managed to get two pictures so what you have posted are the best ones I have! It was great meeting you and seeing your stunning 68. You had that baby standing tall!

In case anyone is wondering what the masking tape is on top of the frame I highlighted the location of the two hidden VIN numbers.

Darwin and I go back many years. Ironically he is responsible for this project. He not only found this car for me but when I said I'd have to sell my 67 GS to buy it, he found a buyer in CA in about 1 week and setup the sale. So I ended up sending a car to CA and receiving one. He has been an invaluable resource to me over the years.

Excellent write-up in the latest ROA Riview. Looking forward to the next edition for the continuing story!

Any chance you'll share your excel parts/restore spreadsheets :Brow:  :Brow:

Thanks for the compliment - Writing these things so it appears that I actually graduated high school is time consuming. I do the first draft then go back and tweek it every 3-4 days for maybe 3 weeks, then only after I can read through it without a single change, it is ready for publishing.
Part II should be very interesting to you as well. Gets more into the details of the work and real world costs. I am going rogue and openly stating all costs so people planning something like this know how to budget with no guess work.

I figured a request would come for the spreadsheets. Not ready to release everything in their current format. Its not that I won't share the contents but there is a ton of info. Some of it is still in my own language and needs better organized so it makes sense to someone else. I am in fact considering posting some xls examples in a future Riview article, possibly part III but I'm still playing with that idea. I have to weigh the importance an xls would appeal to the general membership. Things important to you and I may not be to the majority in ROA.
If there is something specific you are after, email me offline and I'll be glad to try and help you. It will give me an excuse to organize the info.

I found it to be a great article too Jason.
I am impressed by your thoroughness in documenting everything in an Excel spreadsheet.
Aside from taking detailed photos and bagging and tagging everything, about all I have is a binder full of reciepts.

Looking forward to part 2. :TU:

Saving the #'s matching block with the huge crack...wow, that is serious commitment. :beer

Another nice article in the Riview, very informative :TU:

what was involved in the rebuild of the switch pitch torque converter? I wonder if mine needs rebuilding. The 66 shop manual notes that noisy Trans in all gears may be due to damaged needle bearings. mine is mostly noisy in drive while idling at a stop or initial take off from a stop. sort of a transient rumbling sound.
