Is that a 442 next to it? 1965 or so?
It looks like there is the outline of the 442 emblem with the surrounding trim, right in front of the rear wheel, above the side door trim.

I hate seeing cars rust into the ground, what a bunch of losers. Let me guess they want $2000 for the parts car?

$1,000 with a title. the grille is in the backseat

I guess that puts it in the almost worth doing category. I like the hardtops better and would look for a better starting point. $1000 sounds fair for a car with a title, I like to have cash in hand and make them show me the title when negotiating a price. 10:1 they don't really have the title.

    Paul,

I see you made it down to LeRoy's! I have been meaning to post some info on this car for a few weeks now, I'm glad you posted pictures. I know a guy that does some work for the owner of this yard (LeRoy) and he said he drove it around the yard and the motor seemed solid, of course that was before it was parked and I don't know how long it has been sitting now :Dou:

I hope someone rescues this car before it rots away. I thought about snatching it up, but didn't want such a big project.

How much is it worth as the sum of its parts?

    Today:
Vinyl top chrome moldings, rear window chrome and glass have a strong Market Value since they are interchangeable with Chevelle, GTO, etc. Lets be conservative and say $250.

The GS specific stuff if it is any good has a reasonable Market Value. Things like hood scoops, wheel well chromes, California scripts, etc. Let say $250 again

Other parts like interior items, dashboard, speedo. etc. also have value, lets say $250 again.

Mechanical parts have a limited Market Value to Buick Collectors. Things like the 340 non AC stuff, AC stuff? Posi? etc. lets call it $250 again.
    Etc., etc. etc...

10-20 years sitting where it is at:
    Worthless

Why someone wouldn't part a car like that is beyond me? Especially if you are in the business of parting out cars, WTF?

    why part??

Why part the car?? From the pictures it looks to be basicly straight and not too rusted.Yes it needs a complete resto but a car in a little better shape appearence wise would cost a lot more and in most cases needs the same things and amount of work to restore. This is a GS and a rare California GS model.I am happy the owner refuses to part the car and hope it gets restored. Why part a real GS that is restorable????

I say part it, because in the real world this car will sit where it's at until it's worthless. Some of the parts are hard to find and could have new life on a better car. A GS California isn't all that Special. I bet that 55 next to it has a similiar story?

    Looks to be a '64 Cutlass F-85. I'm not sure but I think the 442 wasn't available until '65?

    Re: why part??

    Rusty,
I agree with you on this one. Altough not as rare as some GS cars, these are getting harder to find. You can pay much more for a car with fair paint, interior and running drivetrain, but most of us would not be pleased. Then we would have to go over it anyway. This is the kind of car I have started with in the past. Made nice ones with some and made drivers out of others.:3gears:

    A little more information:

The owner of the yard does not own the GS California. It belongs to a friend of his and he is simply allowing the guy to let the car sit at the front of his yard (kind of a salvage yard consignment type deal). That is the way it was explained to me by a friend that frequents this yard and does some disassembly for the owner :TU:

I also think this car is very restorable and all the "California" emblems and other GS stuff is there, I would also hate to see them part it.

On a side note, this same yard has a mid 50's Roadmaster sitting right across from the GS California, I think he was asking around $1500 for it a couple of weeks ago, if I remember correctly.

the car is pretty solid, i didn't see any major rust.
the left 1/4 panel was creased pretty good.
the dash pad was worthless. it had tilt steering,
don't remember if it had a/c or not. the grille wasn't
broken, probably why someone put it in the back
    seat.
i didn't pay much attention to the olds next to it.
i don't even remember seeing it until i looked at the
    pics. when i got home.
    Chris,
i stopped by there after i was at your house monday
barely made it home before the slick stuff started
    coming down.
i found this about a mile away from the salvage yard
