What's up V8 gang. Looking for exhaust info. I have a 455 in a 67 coupe MT/SS headers looking for a quality exhaust in 3" not sure on the muffler size & inlet/outlet order. Finally, Thoughts on exit, out the side like factory or straight back. 3' behind the wheels interest me. Let me know what you've done or likes / dislikes Thanks
If you want quality you want 304 stainless stay away from the 409. Magna flow system mark everything then have it tigged up
Yep, that's going to leave a $$$$ skid mark. but sounds like the right path. Thanks, last time I was really on here you bought that tomahawk block. finished ?
That's not how it was done from the factory. It's not a Chevy ya know. Even though I do like that set up. Buick ran the pipes all the way to the bumper. I would put the long case Dynomax Super Turbos on it and run the tailpipes all the way to the back IMHO.
Hey Nick, long time... Really, Stock was out the back? TA sells the package as out the side. maybe it's because all years are included ?
This is what i found, looks like i could run it behind the tires or out the back this appears to be a very good quality system https://www.magnaflow.com/products?partNumber=15897&searchTerm=15897
Hey Joe, glad your back! I'm looking forward to seeing your car finished. Regarding the tailpipes, no they didn't stick out past the bumper, they had a turn down just before reaching the bumper. I used the Flowmaster "American Thunder" on my car that comes with both styles of tailpipes. I chose the turn downs because I really can't deal with straight pipes sticking out past the bumper. T/A has the best looking tailpipe cut in my opinion but I think they're a little short on pre '68 cars. They look really cool in the 3in size. As far as mufflers, it's tough to beat the sound and performance of the Dynomax long case "SuperTurbo". YMMV, Good luck.
That 3 inch system exits behind the rear tires. The 2.5 inch system has several exit options..... behind tires, or to bumper. Stock goes back towards the rear bumper, with downturns just before it gets to the bumper. And yes, the 68-72 systems are too short for a 64-67 (between rear axle and bumper). I think TA has extensions for the early cars. I have the 2.5 inch Magnaflow on my red '66. Ed, I trimmed a few inches off of the over-the axle pieces to tuck it closer to the body. Turned out nice.
Joe, you be the judge on what looks better ..... Now on the other hand, here's a custom built 3" on my buddies '69 Chevelle that exits behind the tire. Looks pretty bad ass....... I'm not sure that a pre-bent kit would have the same results. BTW.....He's got those mufflers I mentioned and it sounds fantastic.
Amazon puts this on sale sometimes - under $400 - comes with several outlet options: https://www.amazon.com/Magnaflow-15...783302&sr=1-8&keywords=magnaflow+buick+system Not 3" system is 2.5"
This is an original tailpipe on a '66 GS, I prefer my exhaust to be heard but not seen! I used the above system, straight out the back, with the polished downturns at the bumper.
I put the 3" TA pipes on my car. I like the look of the slash cut pipes exiting after the tire. TA makes an extension kit to extend to the rear bumper on pre 68 cars.
Okay, The magna flow are the 409 stainless that Hugger said to stay away from, These are Pypes and they are 304 stainless and exit out the back I like that I can clamp and adjust get it dialed in before welding it. Also..Thoughts on the x pipe. The last pro exhaust guy I talked to said he cuts more of those out then puts in. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/pye-sga13ssr/overview/year/1967/make/buick/model/skylark then these are the collector reducers. also 304 stainless. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/pye-pvr13s/questionsanswers/
Unless they've changed something Pypes was 409 you can mig weld it with copper wire like steel...?? But if you want a true aggressive exhaust note stick with true duals. I've had 3in X's on several GS's but I prefer the standard dual sound much better
Yea they offer 304 now good for them, it's more money but if you want it to look nice for years to come its best
