You need a Star Wars air cleaner under there!

Better with the air cleaner lid flipped anyway because you are exposing more filter to the air instead of the closed assembly with the lid in the normal position. The yellow wires are as old school as old school "day two" as it gets. I would have gone with red or black but you have what you have so who cares.

Not really versed on those Riv's and just noticed the battery on the wrong side of the engine for the starter. Probably a leftover from the Nailhead engine in '66. Surprising the factory didn't switch it over for ease of wiring.

That’s really interesting, but that makes sense. Funny quirks

As long as those wires are spiral core, you are good. When I see yellow wires, I think of the Accel wires back in the day that were carbon core. They degrade from day one. Spiral core wires last a lot longer.

Thanks guys, I think I’m gonna stick with it for a little while. I like it flipped and I’ll probably just end up running my Edelbrock filter.

To those going to Lebanon tomorrow, let's have a day.

    This is the plan:
1st pass: leave it in drive and shake it down
    2nd: manually 3rd
3rd: toss slicks on to see if they fit and then run it back
4th: lets see how it goes

I'm thinking the air is going to be pretty decent early on. You should be right about 100 mph and break into the 13's as long as you're not spinning crazy(13.8?). Bad move if you didn't test fit the slicks. The slicks would take care of any traction problems. With the street tires just run it in low stall the first run and that should keep the tire spin low. (Low stall with your converter won't be much less than high stall was with the 13" factory unit.) If it hooks good in low stall with the street tires try high stall the next run and see what happens. Shut off the high stall as soon as the car gets moving along nicely but definitely in 1st gear. Don't power brake too much, maybe 1500 rpm.

When I run street tires and I expect tire spin I manually hold it in low and control the spin with the throttle and as soon as the car hooks and you go to full throttle you can bump it to 2nd and it will shift when it wants. If you just leave it in drive and it spins or you leave off the throttle even a bit it will shift through 2nd and right into 3rd killing the run. If traction is perfect and you leave it in drive even then the shifts will come too early. Leave it in second and manual it out at 53-5500 with that cam. Even better if you can manual 1-2 at 53-5500. Any short shifting with your setup and serious disappointment will follow. You didn't install that cam to be shifting at 4700 rpm.

If traction is great and you get a good run beforehand then for the runoffs you can always leave it in 2nd and shift manual to 3rd for the consistency. More importantly if the tire spin is much more than a little bit in low stall and you have to backpedal the throttle don't waste time on the street tires. Get the slicks on the back and use high stall. Of course if you are somehow breaking into the 13's even when spinning the tires then mission accomplished and even lower ET's will be in your future.

Lots of things to think about but I wouldn't bank on too many practice runs so make them count. Good luck!

I might be buying the slicks at the strip, that’s why I don’t have them. Thanks for all the help and advice Mike! I can’t fall asleep cause of the excitement and I’m getting annoyed. Took a slug of rum and we’ll see if it helps put me out

Quiz time, tell me what happened during the run?

I’m going to guess pretty good amount of tire spin on the launch based of the 60 foot.

Hazed them for the whole 60 foot

Yup that will slow you down pretty good. Looks like stickier tires are in your near future.

Can't argue with the tire spin part but where's the MPH? Even on your worst tire spin run you should out mph your best last year's MPH. Headers, cam, better exhaust should be worth a few MPH no matter what the weather. Please tell me there's better news.

After reading that and looking back the mph does seem odd I went back and looked at your 14.69 pass from last year and compared it to that one. The 1/8 mile and 1/4 mile mph are almost identical on that pass to the pass you just posted. Also the difference between the 1000ft and 1/4 time on the 14.69 pass was 2.409 seconds and on the time slip you just posted the difference between the two was 2.443. Just out of curiosity did you change the rpm you are shifting at and if so by how much?

I'll give you all some long awaited good news. Just give me time to type it all up.

Getting that big old boat out of the hole is key. On drag radials, on a well prepped track the 68 will do 2.00 and 9 flat in the 1/8th. Theres plenty of suspension tricks that will help you launch. Weather conditions can also play a huge part in the numbers on the top end.

So, as many of you knew, 13s was my goal. I'll leave it at that for now.

Timeslips go from left to right, first to last.

First pass: My 15.923 was a combination of slamming the gas to the floor right off the line and 38 psi in the street tires. I lit em up light a Christmas tree for the 60 foot and then caught second. I finished off the shitshow by braking before the 1320 light beams. Gotta start off somewhere for my first pass of the new season.

Second pass: Due to the advice of those in person, I aired the tires down to 28 psi and let it rip. I came off the line very slow with an ease into the gas, but realized later that I could start much harder due to the lower tire pressure. Set a new best ET of 14.547 @ 98.55 mph.
.15 better in ET than ever before and over 5 mph better than ever.

Third pass: Dropped PSI to 26. I gave it a safe amount of gas off the line and went my best 60 foot of 2.172, which ended in me missing my manual shift to third gear and smelled burning rubber and shitty pants when I accidentally neutral dropped it to 6200rpm, if my eyes weren't deceiving me. 14.07 with a missed shift followed by coasting in neutral for the rest of the track? I bet you've figured out I need a helmet. I broke out of my dial by .33 seconds, but the other guy goofed too, he probably just wanted to go home too.

Fourth pass: Competition round 2. Once again, missed my 3rd gear shift and caught it before it went over 5500rpm this time. Coasted in neutral and braked before the end of the track, explaining the big drop in mph.

    Moral of the story:
I will fix my governor this week to what I want it to be.
I will leave it in drive.
I will find better tires for my car, though running 13s on street tires does have its benefits.

    Conclusion:
I will run 13s this season. I basically already have.

Also, huge shoutout to Jacob Williams for listening to my complaining and running his 67 GS 400 with a 455 which he expected low 16s from. He ran a best of 14.08 today and blew our minds. Still saying I ran faster than him in a Riviera:D, but he has a lot of upgrades coming for his car which both he and I are very excited about.
