Just put a new starter in my car ran fine and started fine until the starter split apart. Put the new starter in it cranks fine but isn't firing now checked everything connection wise. I have a new coil new plugs and wires and running one of the points eliminator kits.

Make sure you connected both of the smaller wires on the solenoid.

You just changed the starter, correct? You didn't install the points eliminator at the same time did you?

No I put it in way before the starter went bad I'll recheck the wiring on the starter I had to do it on the ground instead of having it on a lift so I might have missed something. Thanks for the reply and the pic.

Just double checked everything is hooked up and tight.

If your not getting 9 volts to the coil when cranking the motor it will never light off for you.

Still starts with the charger attached? Hows your battery?

WHY did the old starter "split apart"? That right there indicates something was very wrong.

    First Guess: Ignition timing incorrect

    Second Guess: Ignition fault

"I" would disconnect the coil wire, crank engine, look for spark using a non-HEI spark tester. If you have spark, pull all plugs to inspect for fouling. Reinstall. Then connect timing light per normal procedure.
