This is a cool piece of history a friend of mine brought this home yesterday. It's the "Stone Pony", a 68 and a half CJ Mustang, 17k original miles, 4spd. and 3:91 rear. He said it was raced heavy at Englishtown and Atco NJ. I was wondering if anyone remembers this car or has any info on the car. :TU:

Dave, Thanks for the links. Lots of really cool stuff. This car was bought new and raced for who knows how long. According to my friend it sat for quite some time. The body isn't really that bad at all, minor surface rust.

Jason, I agree, the car is like a time machine. Still has the original battery mounted in the trunk. He isn't sure what he wants to do.

If he cosmetically "restores" that car and DOESN'T go back with that classic 60/70's era paint job/striping, etc combo someone should call the vintage drag car police and have the car seized.

That car and the paint, etc is way too cool to change back to stock.....a time capsule.

Point this car out to the King of L.I., Bruno Dipaola. I bet he may have raced that car back in its day.

Hes doing sheetmetal work on the car now. It needs very little. Its going to have a 427 with 428 crank (454) and is going to resemble a factory lightweight car. It will be painted the factory green. As soon as he sends pics, I will post them.

That would be it's predecessor....a 289 powered '65/66 vs the 428 '68. Wonder if that one still survives somewhere?
