Hi all, I'm trying to track down an apparent short in the wiring from the fuel gauge to the tank sender in a '68 Special Deluxe wagon. (I assume it's a short because the gauge always reads absolutely full and does not move, which indicates that the wire going from the gauge to the sender does not reach ground through the sender as required. I suppose the sender or the gauge could be faulty, but I want to test the circuit first.) Does anyone know the specific physical path of the wiring harness that includes the sender wire, and the locations of the applicable harness connectors? I'm trying to avoid disturbing more carpet or headliner than is necessary to locate and test the wiring. Any additional tips or suggestions would also be greatly appreciated. For what it's worth, the following link is to a wiring diagram for a '68 GS, which appears to be identical to a wagon for simple circuits like the fuel gauge and sender but doesn't indicate physical locations of harnesses and connectors: http://68buick-gs.com/large-wiring-diagram.htm Thanks!
This thread: http://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/fuel-gauge-and-sender-operation-and-diagnosis.330220/ ... will help diagnose. Had the same issue and in my case it was the sender. Bob
Thanks Bob. I did see that thread and it seems to support my theory that there's a short somewhere in the wiring to the sender, or the sender itself could of course be bad. If I can figure out the physical path of the harness and locations of the connectors, I'll be able to test the circuit and know for sure.
