Friends, Anyone installed new vent window division channel run in a 68 GS/Skylark?

This is the vertical weatherstrip/rubber piece with felt lining that guides the front edge of the window glass. It sits in the metal channel that forms the rear of the vent window assembly.

I bought new rubber channel pieces and they are long enough to run top to bottom of the division channel.

However, the doors have a secondary piece of sheetmetal channel inside the main structural channel. The second sheetmetal channel piece starts about the top edge of the door and runs to the bottom of the division channel. It is lined with a thin felt like material that is worn away. This secondary metal channel makes it too tight to install the new rubber pieces.

Can I simply remove the sheetmetal piece and use the new rubber channel from top to bottom?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks Scott

I would like to know also. Plus the manual mentions "bend over tabs" assume these are not on reproduction weatherstrip? Answers please.
