Does anyone know the correct part number crossmember for a 69GS 400 4-speed. I have one but the trans looks like it sits to high. The part number on it is #9796239,but it looks like it has been modified. It has two sets of holes, for the transmission mount one set sloted and one regular

The cross member is not specified by the transmission but by the model, the mount is transmission specific.

    Convertible and Sport Wagon
    9796243 - GS400 and Sport Wagon
    9796242 - Less GS400 and Sport Wagon

    Coupes, Sedans and Regular Wagons
    9796239 - Less GS400 Coupe
    9796240 - GS400 Coupe

Looks like you have the wrong cross member and need the 9796240..

On a 70 4 speed the E brake cable goes over the cross member and not through the hole like a TH 400. Ask someone experienced about a 69.

About 20 years ago , I took my four speed stuff out and put in a automatic to bracket race, along with a 6 point rollcage, then parked the car about 15 years ago. In the mean time my dad sold all my four speed stuff at a swap meet, and I didn't find out for about five years. Fast forward to now and I am doing a body off restoration and trying to get it back the way it was-hence no crossmember. I got a Muncie from impala, I found the correct bell housing , still had the clutch pedals( Ididnt take them out back then),and I'm getting the clutch linkage from Dave Kliner(should be here soon), and with a lot of luck I still had the console.

At one time his stuff did not fit. Look for the posts in the archives.
