    69 Fireglow Paint

    John, you meant the spring of 69 since they would stop production in the summer to set up for the fall and new year cars.
    I enclose a picture of my cowl tag, I have been decoding it wrong and :Dou:
    I'm glad that it was decoded properly today by local car buff and friend. :beer
    The paint code is: - B

    Okay, now that I know that the car was original Fireglow GS 350 with a vinyl top, My next questions are as follows:
    1. How many 69 GS 350 of the 5440 automatics build were Fireglow Orange (Q Code) 2. And of those, how many with black vinyl tops?

    According to the DCRs there were 306 GS's total painted "Q" in 69 . 156 of which were GS-350s. Black vinyl top cars were 5,773. But there is no way to determine how many Fireglow 1969 GS-350s were made with black vinyl tops.

    Thank you Jason, going to have to get one of those DCRs. Does it tell you a breakdown of cars build by month? My fender tag says 06D, which would be June 4th week, just wondering if any were build in July, August before the break, for the set up for the new 1970's models.

    My numbers from Mike Trom say there were 127 GS400's painted Fire Glow Orange (102 of those @ Flint) :TU: So what were the other 23 cars? California's and Convertibles?

    What caught my eye on his cowl tag is he has a lower Body number from the Fisher plant but his car was built a whole month after mine. :Smarty:

    Car was built in Fremont Ca. could that be the reason for the lower body number yet a month later?

    Stratomist Blue is a nice color too.

    Mine was Freemont also.. The color was only avalible if ordered at Freemont or Flint.

    Looks like 23 GS400 convertibles and 156 GS 350s
    So technically, your GS is one of 25 Freemont built GS400s. My question would be, if Dave's car has no paint code, was it still counted in the DCR's? Could there technically be more Fireglow Orange cars out there than Buick counted?

    The Cali GS was built on the "Special" body with a "3327" model number. In 1969 the list from the DCR's for paint code "Q" on this body style is:

    Flint = 102
    Fremont = 41
    Total = 143

    There is no way to tell from the DCR's how many Cali GS's were built with that paint color.
    The 143 would be in addition to the GS totals listed. I am sure that there were Skylark and Skylark customs, etc built with that color also.

    I don't know Mike.. If you go back on page one of this thread and look at the Paint Brochure I posted it said the color was only available on the:

    3327 California GS Coupe
    3437 GS350 Sport Coupe
    4637 GS400 Sport Coupe
    4667 GS400 Convertible

    It even tells you what interior and top colors were available also.

    So I don't think it was available on any other cars except the GS's.

    It that is the case then we know exactly how many Cali GS's were painted that color:
    Flint = 102
    Fremont = 41
    Total of 143 out of 3574 Cali GS's made in '69.
